The day that I would leave for the palace came quickly. Just as Mr. Benson promised, he had a car waiting for me at 8am. Everything of mine was packed up, it didn't take long considering I never had much in the first place and they would provide most of the clothes and necessities I would need.

I went to hug my dad goodbye and said, "Are you sure this is a good idea?"

"I have never been more sure of anything in my entire life," he replied

"It's so far...will you be okay?" I quickly respond.

"It's worth it. You will never have anything like this happen again! What father would I be to hold you back?"

"I suppose."

"I'll be fine, I promise. Now, let's not keep the royals waiting, you have to get to the palace!"

With that, I wave dad goodbye and hop into the black car waiting to take me to the airport. The driver had a stern look on his face that said, don't talk to me. Since I had nothing to do, I started going over every possible scenario of what will happen once I get to the palace.

Every outcome ended in something horrible, making me question exactly why I was going to the palace in the first place. Will they hold me hostage? Will I ever see the light again? Okay, that might have been a little dramatic.

Will I get to see the famous royals? What are they like? I wondered about everthing I would do as a maid. Would I have friends? What is the prince actually like? Everyone saw him on TV every now and then and made assumptions about who he is, but nobody actually knows. I can't say I haven't wondered about the mysterious and handsome prince. I've only just assumed he is spoiled and arrogant.

My thoughts were cut short once we arrived at the airport. I walked up to the gate leaving for Angelonia, the capitol of Mazania. Three heads turned my way, one gave me a huge smile, the other a kind grin, and the last a shy smile.

The girl who gave me a huge smile runs over and gives me a huge hug before saying, "Can you believe we are going to work in the PALACE! With ROYALS and PRINCE JAMES! He is sooo dreamy isn't he Abby?"

"Yes, he's handsome," a friendly girl with curly black hair says with a smile.

"I'm Briella by the way!" says the girl who gave me a hug at the beginning who I now realize has beautiful long, brown hair. I smiled at her enthusiasm and could already tell we would be friends.

"I'm Abigail, but you can call me Abby," the second girl said while grinning at Briella and giving me a friendly look that says what are we going to do with her?

"That's Lily," Abby said while gesturing to the last girl with red hair who gave me a shy smile and wave. "She's shy."

After the introductions, Briella and I sat down and gushed about what we thought life would be like at the palace. 30 minutes later, the last girl still hadn't come and it was 20 minutes past when we were supposed to take off.

I started to think that she decided not to come when we heard the clicking of shoes coming from behind us. A blonde girl came walking in heels with a disinterested look on her face. She gave the four of us a quick glance and an eyeroll before continuing to walk right through the doors to our plane.

The rest of give each other confused looks before following her out the doors. Entering the plane, each of us took a seat and awkwardly stared at the new girl who casually sat chewing a large wad of bubblegum.

Soon Abby broke the ice by saying, "Ummm, who exactly are you?"

"I'm Jemma, and I'm not looking to make friends or be some stingy maid," she replied sourly.

"Then why are you here?" I added.

"Ugh. For the Prince, duh. He's 19 now and I'm sure is looking for a wife and queen. If I have to be maid to get close to him I will. I know everything about him, including that he likes blue so I got these new blue heels," she says annoyed.

Nobody wanted to continue the conversation, so we left Jemma alone. Briella and I talked about random topics while Abby joined in on the conversation once and awhile. Lily sat to herself and read a book while Jemma kept looking at herself in the mirror.

I think she changed her hairstyle at least 30 times and tried around 12 different types of braids.

The plane's luxury was so fascinating because I have never been on one before. I quickly found out that I was the poorest among the five of us. Everyone came from decently sized homes and took the job for the experience of living in a palace (except for Jemma who is looking to come out as a queen.)

Don't get me wrong, I came for the experience, but mostly for money to help out my dad.

Before I knew it, the pilot told us that we would be landing in a few minutes. I immediately looked out the nearest window to see a huge white palace with lucious gardens surrounding it.

"You might want to close your mouth before drool gets everywhere," Briella says with a laugh as I realized my mouth was hanging open at the sight.

Once we landed, everyone was led to a door at the side of the palace that led to a room with chairs, couches, and a fireplace. Separate rooms such as a kitchen, laundry room, cleaning supplies room, etc. broke off of it.

A petite woman came barging out of one of the doors with a frustrated look and a clip board. When she looked up and saw the 5 of us standing there she let out a breath and said, "You ladies are 20 minutes behind schedule and that messes everything up. It's fine for now I'll just have to change a few things around, just don't be late again,I won't stand for that."

She began scribbling things on her clipboard as the rest of us look around nervously.

"I'm Mary, your head maid. This is the common room for maids when you have downtime but you will mainly be doing various chores that will be posted on a board right outside your rooms. Before you can start that you will have a day of training tomorrow that just teaches you the ropes of what you will be doing and how to do it correctly. Your rooms will be located through that door and all along the hallway. You can go find them now and get settled, tomorrow you must be up at 6:30 to start your training. Have a good day," she said before going straight out through a new door.

After a few seconds of standing in shock, Abby leads us to find our rooms. The door she told us to go through had a long hallway with multiple pods breaking off. Briella, Abby, Lily, Jemma and I all shared one of the pods that had 5 doors leading to our seperate rooms.

The rooms had a bed, a dresser, and a closet. They were obviously small but still had room to add personal things, even though I didn't have much. I put up some picture frames of my dad, mom, and I that we took when she was still alive.

Satisfied with the way the room looked, I plopped onto the bed and let the exhaustion of the day carry me into a deep sleep
