He had been teasing me that he had another gift for me and that I wouldn't be disappointed in what it was, however his mother had it and I had to wait till we got to his brother's house, I was being a smart ass and quipped back that unless it was an engagement ring I would be disappointed

He replied, "I guess you will be disappointed then!" I didn't really think too much more about it. We were at his brother's house for Christmas Day lunch with his family and he asked if I wanted to go out the back for a smoke.

We went out the back and I sat down and he remained standing, he seemed a little nervous but I didn't question it, he then dropped to one knee and shakily asked if I would do him the honour of becoming his wife.

All I could get out was "Oh My God!" "Oh My God!" I was in complete shock and continued to say "Oh My God!" until he had to ask me if that was a yes? To which I replied with a yes, we finished our cigarettes and went back inside to his waiting family who all knew what was happening

After the congratulations from his family and showing the ring off, I called my mum to tell he what had just happened, after her initial congratulations she was a little disappointed that he didn't follow tradition and ask them for my had in marriage, I told her it wasn't the 1800s anymore!

My next call was to my sister and let her know the good news, even though we weren't close, I didn't have any friends and wanted to share the news with anyone I could. After she gave her congratulations, she immediately told me that I had to have her as my bridesmaid!

We were pretty quick in setting the date and decided on 21st of August, it was close enough to the time we first got together and close to my birthday so that he wouldn't forget either date, we told our families to save the date and we went about making the arrangements for venues and the like

Things got off to a rocky start as my new fiancé wanted to get married in a Catholic Church and I wanted to get married in an Anglican Church, I had always dreamed of getting married in the same Church as my parents did.

Now neither one of us are religious people, if anything we were an affront to either religion but especially the Catholics, we were living together in sin, had sex before marriage, he drank, took drugs swore etc so I couldn't understand his vehemence in getting married in a Catholic Church.

We were at a bit of a stale mate regarding Churches until he found out that you have to do a mandatory weeklong marriage course through the Catholic Church, with the Anglican Church it was recommended to do the weekend marriage course but not forced upon you

Therefore, he opted for the Anglican wedding! The ball was rolling and things were being booked and paid for, that was until my sister decided to drop a bomb in May on Mother's Day! We were out to lunch with my mother and father when my sister asked when my wedding was going to be

We had already decided days after our wedding that the date was going to be in August and we told all our families, it had slipped her mind so in May 3 months before my wedding she announced that she was thinking about going to go to Greece for the Olympics

So at lunch upon being reminded that my wedding date was in August she requested that I change the date of my wedding to accommodate her going to Greece for the Olympics. I knew my sister and knew that this was never going to happen, she is known for making grand statements but never following through

I politely advised that I would not be changing the date of my wedding 3 months before the actual to accommodate her whim of going to Greece. My mother was not impressed with me and that I wasn't budging to change the dates to suit my sister and told me that if I didn't change the date that she would use the money she was giving me to help pay for the wedding and it would be to pay for her airfare back to attend my wedding.

I was utterly devastated, we picked the 21st of August, as it was significant date to us and now that had to be changed to work around my sister! When I got home, I told my fiancé as to what had transpired at lunch, he was as impressed as I was at this new development.

I now had to seriously think about changing the dates as we needed the money from my parents to help pay for the wedding, I can't remember how much time passed before I got word that she had changed her mind and wasn't going to go to Greece anymore....Thank God!

Time came around to pick the bridesmaid dresses; we already had a theme in mind and decided on a black and white theme. I had been to looking at dresses and believe I found the perfect dresses for my 2 bridesmaids. The dress would suit both girls and it was what I wanted then to wear.

It might not be everyone's cup of tea but I liked it and thought the girls would look good in it. It wasn't an over the top dress but a simple and elegant black and white A line dress and it was in keeping with my theme.

I took my Mother and sister to look at the dress and try them on. My sister is tall, thin and beautiful and anything would look good on her and the dress I found looked great it complimented her figure and she looked beautiful, however she didn't like the dress and had found another dress that she wanted to wear instead

Now while the dress isn't ugly. I didn't want it for as the dress my bridesmaids wore, it was too Sex in the City for me and I like the more understated dress I had picked or what I wanted. Not to be all Bridezilla about it, as it was my wedding I thought I would get final say on the outfits.

She had already caused me enough anguish over changing my dates and now wanted to wear whatever she wanted, she hadn't done anything to assist with preparations and when I asked her for help she told me to get my other bridesmaid who live 2.5hours away from me and had 2 small children to help me!
