Philip Hamilton's POV

"....I'm not ready for life" I thought, staring up at the large school building. Having been homeschooled before along with my several other siblings, going to a public school was a new experience. As I walked into the building, I saw many other kids about my age, younger, or older talk to one another, walking throughout the large halls.

I pulled out a small slip of paper where I had written down the most necessary things I needed to know such as my locker combination and my class schedules. As I reached my locker and started unlocking it, I noticed a girl on the ground, sitting there in a fetal position. Her tanned skin was littered in several bruises, scabs, and scars.

I worried for a moment. I stuffed all my stuff in my locker, struggling to close it. I slammed the locker door, seeing that the halls had cleared. It was now just me and that girl. She stood up, limping away to go to class. I rushed up to her, grabbing her arm, "Hey, are you okay?"

She froze in her position, refusing to face me but also not making a sound. I was confused. "Um, hello?" I continued. I snapped my fingers in front of her face, making her jump ever so slightly and turn to me. "O-Oh, sorry. Did y-you say something?" she questioned quietly. I was going to say something, but shut my mouth.

I examined her figure. She was incredibly short for a girl her age. She seemed pained. Her eyes were a dull gray, no sparkle in them whatsoever. Just gray. Her long, curly, deep brown hair was a tangled mess. The bags under her eyes signaled that she hadn't slept for a while. She had a very tiny figure. As I said, she was short, yet she was also very skinny. You could tell that she didn't eat properly.

I spoke, "I'm Philip Hamilton, what's your name?" The girl stared blankly for a bit before her brain processed what I had said. She stuttered once again, "I-It's Theodosia B-Burr." I smiled, "Um... do you wanna be friends?" Dear god, I sound like a second grader. She looked up at me, biting her lip, "W-We can, b-but you wouldn't want t-to be friends with me, I'm sorry."

I frowned, "You seem like you need someone to be there for you." She seemed to lose herself in thought as I said those words. "S-Someone who can be there for me?" she repeated after me, in which I nodded. She regained eye contact with me, "Okay." I smiled, repeating, "Okay."

Theodosia and I agreed to meet up after class. I walked around in search of her, spotting her leaning against her locker. I approached her, smiling brightly, "Hey." She looked up from the ground to look at me, "Hi." I glanced back at the bruises and dried blood on her arms around her scabs. Not wanting to seem suspicious, I looked back up at her face.

"I was wondering if I could.... get to know you a bit better?" I questioned, smiling. She shrugged. I took that as a sign to continue, "Well uh.... What's your favorite color?" She thought for a moment, replying with, "Red." I asked another question, "Do you remember my name?"

She nodded, "It was...... uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... P-Pip, right? Something like that???????" I chuckled at the nickname, nodding. "Could I call you Theo?" I inquired, a smirk on my face as she nodded. Suddenly, I felt her embrace me. Woah, okay. "You're nice," she commented. I relaxed a bit in her touch, hugging back. I played with her hair a bit, "Y-Yeah, you're nice too."

I glanced around, seeing people stare in disgust. I realized that this was the treatment someone like Theodosia had to face while going to a public school. She pulled away and I asked her another question, "They have dorms here, right?" She nodded. "Do you have a roommate?" I questioned. She shook her head.

She gave me her dorm number and we walked there together, side by side. She unlocked the door and I scanned the area. This place was a mess. Half of the dorm was untouched. The other half was littered with old papers with school notes and information on them. Theo walked up the stairs as I followed.

She walked into a room, turning on the light. She spoke up, "This is my room." The walls were plastered with several doodles and drawings. Most of the drawings were vent art. I noticed a small sticky note on her computer monitor. It had the information I needed if I wanted to learn more about Theo. I knew I wouldn't get anywhere just by sitting here and asking her questions.

I found the number for her father and punched it in to my phone quickly. Theodosia sat on her bed, staring at her hands in her lap. I dialed her father's number, letting it ring. I knew that Theodosia's father was Aaron Burr. I recognized the name.

Considering Mr. Burr and my father weren't on the best terms, I had a very slight chance in Mr. Burr actually liking me. The ringing was soon replaced with a deep, male voice,

"Hello?"

"Uh, yes, I'm looking for Aaron Burr?"

"This is him."

"I was wanting to ask some questions about your daughter,"

"....Who is this?"

"Uh... Philip Hamilton."

"A Hamilton kid? Why are you calling about my daughter?"

"Because I'm sharing a dorm with her, and I would like to know more about her."

"Oh. Well, uh what do you want to know about her?"

"She has a mental illness, right? I was wanting to know what that was all about."

"....Oh,"
