"You think we out ran them?" I heard a man's voice say. "I think so but just to be safe let's keep going," Another voice said as I heard him take the axe out of the zombie's head. "Hey what's this?" Someone asked, followed by a zipper sound. "That's our bag," Baylor whispered. "Hey someone left a bag of stuff here, hey look skittles." I shook my head at Baylor as she shot me a look that basically told me she was going to do something stupid. "Don't move, these men can be dangerous," I told her but I knew it was no use. "Sorry," she whispered before jumping out into the open. "Those are ours," I heard her say. "Geeze you nearly gave me a heart attack," one of the men said. "What do you mean by 'ours'? Who's with you?" A deeper voice asked dripping with suspicion asked. "That would be me," I said standing up from my crouched position leaving Asher on the ground. If they are dangerous they need to know she's not alone.
I looked at the men to see that one of them was the guy that saved me earlier. "This is amazing, are there anymore of you?" The other one asked gleefully as he looked between the both of us. He wore a cheerful smile on his round face that bore enthusiasm. He didn't seem like someone I'd fear. "Yes," I said not offering them anymore information letting their imaginations go wild. They don't know I have a baby here, for all they know I could be hiding a 300 pound muscle man equipped with guns in one of the gopher holes. "Fantastic! We have a car-" he was interrupted by the guy from earlier who I'm assuming is his brother by the striking resemblance they shared. "Are either of you bitten?" He asked emotionslessly. "Ah yes that's important. Are you?" The other more approachable brother asked. "No neither of us are," I said looking between the two of them wondering if they could be trusted. "What about your friends? Which...where exactly are they?" The eager one asked. He seems like a genuinely nice person that's glad to meet other survivors while the other one seems very suspicious of us and hesitant. He must not be half bad as he did help me out earlier. The more approachable brother had soft features that held two soulful brown eyes. He was less masculine and built than his brother but that was probably because he looked a little younger. He couldn't be much older than Baylor.
I have to decide now if I trust them or not because once they know we are two small females and a child that opens the door for danger. "There's just one more of us," I said hoping I'm making the right decision. "Well where are they?" In an instant I made a fast decision to try my luck with these two for some reason. I'm hopping I made a smart decision in this moment. All I know is Baylor and I need all the help we can get and people are scarce these days. Swiftly I walked behind the bush and picked up Asher from his spot on the ground where he was cheerfully shoving a leaf into his mouth. "Where is she going?" I heard the stoic brother ask. I walked back from behind the bush with Asher in my arms watching as their facial expressions changed from curiosity to a fearful for the responsibility. "This is Asher, I'm Exora, and that's Baylor," I said as they looked down at the toddler with unsure expressions. The man full of suspicions ran his hand through his raven hair and shook his head. "That's a danger," he said motioning to Asher. "That's a child," Baylor angrily stepped in before I could. "We can't just leave them Axel," the younger of two brothers said. "I didn't say we are I'm just trying to make you understand what we are getting ourselves into. They can come but that baby has to stay quiet," he said as he rested his bloody axe over his muscular shoulder. I looked at the stolid man wondering where he gets off talking like that to us.
"Excuse me but I never asked to come with you. We're doing just fine on our own. Come on Baylor," I said angrily before turning to walk the other way. "Is that so? Well I seem to recall you running around the woods like a madwomen nearly falling into a pit of Zombs," I turned back to glare at the man who wore an amused smirk. "That is until I saved you of course. I have to admit I thought you were a goner when you ran off again but here you are. Hey maybe I'm wrong, maybe you don't need our help." Who the hell does he think he's talking to? "We don't," I said defiantly. "Hey hey hey let's not be too hasty I know Axel can be a little hard to handle, but he really is a cool guy once he warms up to you." His brother said stepping forward to ease the tension, while all Axel could offer was an eye roll to his comment. "You talk about him like he's a cat," Baylor said with a snort causing the rude man to scowl at her. "I know how he may come across, but we do want to help you, honest we do. So what do you ladies say?" He asked making a point to acknowledge Asher as well. "And Mr.Baby of course. Join us? We have a van just a mile or so up the road. We need all the survivors we can find, there's safety in numbers. Please say you'll join us," he said with a kind smile as he folded his hands together in a plea. I wonder what he gets out of this? Probably company besides his cold blooded brother. "Whatever you decide it has to be now we've wasted far to much time already," Axel said as he leaned his back against a tree.
I looked to Baylor who looked a little hesitant. I know there's saftey in numbers like he said, and they're the safest way out of this mess, but the older brother gives me bad vibes. The younger one seems nice enough though, maybe a little too nice. Whatever my decision is it has to be for the welfare of my companion and Asher, not just me. So I guess I know what I have to do.
"Let's go."
