Quinn managed to lead King and himself around the known monster dens, but finally their peaceful journey reached an end. Quinn gazed up at the towering trees, and saw the shadowy forest before them, "we... We have to go through here," Quinn said, "Baron is near the other side." King nodded, "we can rest before we go in?" he asked Quinn. King had obviously become more concerned for the boy after the mp depletion incident, Quinn could tell by how often he offered to stop and rest, though Quinn always refused. Quinn shook his head, "lets go," he said gripping his staff, "i can tell im getting stronger," he said to King as he entered the forest, to Quinns surprise it was windy, and colder then outside. All the shade and lack of sunlight would explain the cold but... The wind... It didn't make sense. Kings hand fell on Quinns shoulder stopping him, "hey, something bugging you?" he asked. Quinn didn't look back at him, "I'm fine, lets keep going," he said as he moved away continuing to walk. Quinn wrinkled his nose and rubbed it, "shoot..." he said to himself looking around. King looked beside him at the boy confused, "what? What's wrong?" he asked. Quinn shook his head, "i-im not trained enough to break apart monster auras, the reek of them is all around me i cant pinpoint anything," he said. King looked a little concerned but drew his sword and shield, "don't worry about it, just keep your sense up and try not to get surprised," he said and Quinn nodded, "but... Something isn't right... I... I smell a sickeningly sweet aura..." he said, "deep in the forest..." King shook his head, "try not to focus on auras, worry about your eyes and reaction speed," he said. Just as he did a small slightly human like green monster flew from the brush swinging a tooth knife at Quinn. Quinn jumped back but fortunately just as it got close it was slashed in half by Kings sword and burst into light. Quinn stepped back only to have an arrow wizz by his head, a poorly made arrow but still enough to hurt and kill him. Quinn looked up to see another green monster in the tree with a bow and a quiver of arrows, "above!" he called and King stepped by Quinn blocking another arrow just in time with his shield. Quinn flinched at the clang arrowhead on metal. "What the hell are these things?" King yelled, "Goblins, an archer and a normal goblin, they are humanoid monsters that fight in teams... More will come," he said as he closed his eyes and a white aura surrounded him. He tapped his staff, "hold," he cast and a low growl before a thud could be heard. King dropped down his shield to see the archer goblin laying on the ground bound by strands of light. He quickly walked over digging his blade into its head as it yelped and dissipated. Quinn looked around, "What?" king asked, "i sense... Magic?" Quinn said then his eyed widened and the white aura formed around him again, "shell," he cast just in time as two bolts of fire met two blue colored barriers around Quinn and King before the fire stopped and the barriers vanished. Quinn shook his head, "mage," he said and closed his eyes trying to lock onto any form of magic around them. He felt a weak sign in the near woods, it was slowly charging up another spell. Quinn charged up his own spell as a purple aura formed around him, "i though you said you cant use black magic!" King called, Quinn hadn't noticed but he was fighting off another one with a knife. Quinn breathed in then exhaled and pointed his staff, "thunder!" he said and a bolt of light shot from his staff through the trees. A loud yell could be heard and Quinn stoped sensing the magic from before, "dealt with!" he called and looked just in time to meet another tooth knife with his staff. The goblin now attacking him jumped backwards, yelling loudly, "don't let them yell! They're calling another scout team!" he said as he blocked another knife slash. Quinn wasn't taught very many techniques, but the school didn't teach him very many white magic spells either, Quinn is almost completely self taught. Quinn parried another slash as let the blade drag along the staff till Quinn flicked the staff end upwards and the blade flew up. Quinn then spun on his right foot and brought the staff hard onto the side of the goblins face. Quinn was small and not very strong, but the goblin was around his size, wasn't armored, and was taken completely by surprise. The goblin was knocked backwards giving Quinn the chance to conjure his purple aura and point his staff, "thunder!" he cast and a bolt of light struck the goblin just as it did the mage goblin, and it burst and dissipated as well. Quinn flicked some hair out of his face, and Quinn smiled turning to see king... And a pile of 5 goblins that all burst at the same time. Quinn's jaw metaphorically dropped, how? How in the world did he take all of them out so quickly by himself when quinn could only take out 3. Quinn shook his head and nodded, "the response scout team wont be here for a few minutes we should... Wait... Raise?" he said to himself confused. He felt something... The memory of how to cast a spell he had never cast before, the raise spell. King looked over at him, "you ok kid?" he asked, still using kid instead of Quinn. Quinn shook his head, "No... No im fine lets go," he said as he recalled the direction they needed to head in and started back into the woods. Once Quinn started walking he felt a pain in his head and gripped his head, words and voices echoing in his head, "Beware... Beware... Fire... Baron!.. Baron!..." Quinn shook his head till he felt a familiar hand grip his shoulder, "Are you ok?" king asked softly. Quinn nodded, "yes... Im fine... Lets go." Quinn and King continued on, though just a little ways further into the forest Quinn struggled again with the potent, almost floral, aura. King looked back at Quinn as he didn't like how far Quinn kept falling behind, " is your magic running low again? Quinn shook his head and and sighed, "there is a women in baron said to be able to read auras so precisely that she can determine someones personality through theirs, when we get there im going to see her and train my aura senses, maybe then ill be more m into Baron bloody and broken, but instead thanks to you im walking in without a scratch on me," king said and Quinn
couldn't help but smile softly.Quinn and King continued on for a little longer, untill Quinn unexpectedly dropped to his knees. King turned and quickly ran to kneel down beside him, "Quinn! Quinn what's wrong!?" He called but Quinn quickly just shook his head, "just ahead of us... Something is ahead of us." Quinn stood and drew his staff, king nodding and also drawing his sword and shield. They pushed through the trees and brush to quickly reach an open field. Quinn and King both looked around to see nothing, Quinn looked to king confused, "i-i don't understand... It feels like it's directly on us... But there's nothing," he said and King tapped his back softly. Quinn flinched a little but looked to king, who gently gestured by flicking his neck forward. He slowly bent down and picked up a rock, then in a surprisingly quick motion for a guy in heavy armor, launched it forward. It landed with a small thud on the grass in the field, then right as Quinn opened his mouth the earth in front of them folded upwards snapping around the area the rock fell in, and rising from the ground a large flora appearing monster rose from the ground, it had been lying in wait. "Don't doubt your senses," king said, "what can you get on it?" "Libra won't allow me to read monsters of this caliber, I'm sorry," he said stepping back a little. The monster was so large, and without Quinn's spell all he can go off of is simple knowledge. "If it's a plant flora it will most likely have a weakness to fire, but that doesn't help us... Watch out for poison too, I can remove it but it takes time to cast the spell," he said, just as he finished though King slid in front of Quinn with his shield up as three long vibes sprouted from the ground, raising up and crashing hard against the shield. Quinn flinched at the loud noise, his hands shaking slightly, if Libra won't identify the target, it's a strong monster with protection from the spell, he didn't know what to do, "i-im sorry... I don't know what to do," he said timidly. King pushed his shield upwards when blocking another vine, spinning to cut it with his sword and meeting another vine with his shield again, however the third vine shot forward towards King's exposed back. "Protect," Quinn cast as white cubes circled around him and the vine crashed into a yellow barrier rather then King's back. King turned his head nodding at Quinn, and watched as the cubes reversed direction and the barrier around the two became blue, "shell," he cast just as a large burst of green miasma pushed around that barrier, "it's a poison cloud," he said, luckily he figured the poison wasn't naturally created by the monster, but more magical, so shell could defend them from it. As the miasma started to dissipate, green orbs replaced the white cubes dancing around Quinn, he stood conjuring for a moment, King fending off the remaining two vines quite easily. The green orbs then flew outwards and in a puff of smoke a large yellow bird like creature appeared beside him and charge forward, jumping up onto the beast kicking and scratching at it, leaves and plant tissue falling off it. The vibes started moving frantically and King too that chance to slash them off, then charged forward joining the bird in attacking the plant creature. After a few more kicks the spell ended and the chocobo vanished in the smoke again, leaving King slashing at the base of the plant. A purple aura pulsed outwards from Quinn, "thunder," he called as a steak of light shot from his staff striking a part of the plant. Just as King lunged forwards burying his sword in the plant, a cry from behind him made him turn his head, as the plant creature parished and let out a cry, a forth vine fell limp close too Quinn, who was lying against a tree, a trickle of blood coming from his head, as he was ambushed by the hidden vine and launched into the tree. King quickly released his sword and shield which fell to the ground and ran over sitting the boy up, "Quinn! Kid! Wake up!"
