you sat in the in waiting room nervously as the clock on the wall seemed to have been ticking louder and louder with each passing second. it was two minutes till your appointment with your midwife, and today you were getting your final ultrasound. but you weren't nervous because last week marked your ninth month of being pregnant, or because you were getting an ultrasound, you were nervous because with two minutes, wait, now a minute and forty-five seconds to spare till your appoint, caleb zion kuwonu still hadn't shown up yet.
your eyes darted from the wall clock to your phone's clock, and over to the entrance. there was still no sign of him. you pursed your lips and sighed as you slouched in your seat, your eyes gazing around the room at pregnant couples who sat eagerly waiting for there appointments too.
zion has never missed any of your ultrasound appointments over the months, actually, he's been rather punctual and would show up early just to talk with you and ease your nerves as the both of you sat together in the waiting room. from what you could tell, it actually seemed like zion liked coming to these things. and you liked seeing him enjoy looking at his baby on the monitor and hearing its heartbeat through the speakers. it warmed your heart every time you saw his eyes light up and a smile beam across his face whenever he saw the baby. and you sure as hell didn't want the last appointment to be any different.
you didn't want to rush him and you pretty much you texted him at least five times in the last thirty minutes asking him 'where the fuck he was at?' but he had only responded once, and that was only to your first text.
"y/l/n!" the nurse called for you as she stepped out of the door to the back with a clipboard in her hand. it was now 11:30 a.m on the dot, the exact time for your final ultrasound, and zion wasn't here. you gave the nurse a faint smile as you felt your heart shatter into a million pieces. wow, he really didn't show up. you arose from your seat and rested your hand on your rather large baby bump. it would definitely be soon before the little one would arrive. hopefully, kuwonu's ass would at least show up for the birth on time then.
you shuffled over to the nurse and began to enter the door she held open for you, but the entrance door chimed as an out-of-breath zion trotted in, "y/n! w-wait, wait up!" he panted seeming almost as if he had just run a mile around the parking lot. "i-i'm here, i'm here," he huffed in a large breath as he jogged over to you and the nurse and followed behind the two of you as you entered the hallway.
you shook your head as you looked up at zion, he was for sure a character. "nice save, i literally thought your ass wasn't going to show up," you whispered with a smirk.
zion chuckled as he ran his fingers through his dreads and sighed, "i wouldn't miss this for the world, you know that, y/n," he said sweetly seeming to have gotten happier the further you two walked into the building.
your eyes stayed on him as you examined him, he was so fine. and secretly you hated that you thought that about him because that was how you got yourself into this situation in the first place, him being so fine and knowing how to play his words so well he could swindle any woman into bed with him. you disliked the fact that even though you were pretty tough and resilient with a strong head on your shoulders, you still even managed to have gotten swept into bed with this one and so did many other girls. but you didn't regret it, because nothing couldn't have been more of a blessing than the baby growing inside of you.
but your eyebrows furrowed though as your eyes trailed from his face and down to his neck where your attention was now drawn to. peeking out of his hoodie, a bruise stained the crook of his neck and around it his skin was reddened, almost like it was freshly done. there your mind began to wander as you felt your blood began to boil. that was no bruise, that was a hickey. had zion literally just been with a girl right before your appointment?
the nurse smiled as she stopped at a room and held her arm out as she held the door for you two, "dr. humphrey will be with you two shortly," she announced closing it behind her as she exited the room.
zion followed behind you and helped you up onto the examination bed in the doctor's office, you rolled your eyes and looked elsewhere other than his face, "thanks," you muttered under your breath as the thought of zion being with another girl minutes before his baby's ultrasound made your heartache. but then again, you had no right to be made at him, he wasn't yours.
you sighed as you mustered up enough courage to ask him, even though you had no place to be doing so. "zion," you called out as you slowly turned your head to look at him. he sat there smiling happily as he read one of the poster's on the wall about the development of a child inside of the mother's womb.
"yeah?" he replied, directing his attention towards you looking as sweet and innocent as ever as if just sitting in this office made him happy.
instantly, you felt scared to ask him about it. he appeared so ecstatic and excited to be here, and the last thing you wanted to do was kill his vibe. it was cute seeing him like this. "w-wha-what were you doing before you got here?" you blurted, just wanting to know the answer and see if your suspicions were just speculations and that they were not actually true.
you watched as his smile drifted and he tensed up. silence filled the room as he parted his lips to speak but with nothing coming out.
you exhaled as you frowned, "i ... saw the hickey, the one on your neck. i mean, i-i just--" you stuttered trying to find what to say.
but zion cut you off as he sat back in his chair and nodded his head, "yep, i was with a girl if that was what you were wondering. i-it didn't mean anything, you know it- i ..." he stammered trailing off a bit as things then got very awkward. "don't think i would've forgotten about the ultrasound, this is far more important than ... that, i meant it when i said i wouldn't miss this for the world." he said.
in response you said nothing, but instead, you felt hot tears uncontrollably stream down your cheeks as you looked down. you didn't know why you were crying, but you sure as hell hated that you couldn't fight it back and save your tears in for later. the last thing you wanted was for zion to see you cry again, and this time crying over him.
"y/n, i--" zion sighed as he instantly felt like shit seeing you break down. "i'm sorry," he apologized standing up from his seat and going over to comfort you. just like the first time, you felt his warm hands cup your cheeks as he rose your head for you to face him. his thumbs lightly brushed your face as he wiped away your tears.
you chuckled lightly and sniffled as you brushed his hands away, "no ... don't apologize," you said feeling now embarrassed for getting all fuzzy. "it's not you zion, it's nothing you did." you assured him. "it's just me, i mean i don't know how much longer i can hold this in but, i've just grown to like you, zion. from the moment i was moved next to you in class and you were all flirty and witty, i just couldn't get enough you. and then these past months after finding out i was pregnant by you and i got to know you, even more, and i've grown to love you. but it just hurts feeling like you don't like me, romantically, and that since you got me pregnant you have no true interest in me. that i'm just your baby's momma, a failed one nightstand that brought a life into the equation and now you're just damned to put up with me--"
the door creaked opened as dr. humphery came in, her bright smile on her face morphed into a look of concern as she saw zion looking hurt as he stood before you and your teary eyes. "well, what's going on here?" she asked in confusion as she clutched her clipboard to her chest.
you gave a fake laugh and smile as you wiped your eyes, "oh nothing, just these appointments get a little emotional. just crying tears of joy because our bundle of love will be here soon," you lied not wanting to let dr. humphery in on the bullshit teenaged drama that was taken place.
"aw," she coed understandingly. "i know how it is, lots of couples get emotional during these," the old woman chuckled. "well, to brighten things up, let's get this ultrasound started and see how the little bundle of love is doing,"
prettymuch, it's zion's fatherhood
