Trying to hold myself together, I make my way to the hallway Derek's room is in. Bailey is standing outside of the room, being very cautious and gentle.

She looks up, takes my hands in hers, and says, "Grey, this must be incredibly difficult for you to deal with right now...but I guess this is Derek's way of saying he's not quite done with whatever the world throws at him, at you both. He won't go down without putting up a fight and you know that. Prepare yourself before you go in there, he's awake and is able to talk, but he's still weak. If anything, stay strong for the kids."

I squeeze her hands, thanking her. All I can feel right now is pure numbness, an almost out of body sensation. Slowly inching toward the door, I peer in through the window. I try to normalize my shallow breathing, but I only feel like I'm getting choked. Suddenly, a pair of blue eyes locks with mine, and my heart starts beating again.
