Author's note: I'm sorry this one is so short!  i've been really busy with work and personal commitments.  I'm working on an original work of fiction, a novel.  I hope to post a teaser on here for you guys soon.  I'll try to update again soon and make it a little longer next time.  Enjoy!

My mind quickly scanned through some of the medical training that I'd gleaned from Carlisle.  Melody was passed out on her side on the cool tile floor.  I turned her gently on to her back.  I scanned the kitchen, locating a towel.  I rolled it up and elevated her feet.  She didn't appear to have any trouble breathing.  I waited.

After a few minutes, Melody regained consciousness.  She blinked a couple of times, then sat up, staring at me.  She must have stared at me for at least two to three minutes without speaking a word.  She stared into my face, squinting her eyes.  She pulled a lock of her hair around to examine it, then leaned in and did the same with my hair.  They were almost a perfect match in both color and texture.  "I...I don't understand.  I see that we're related.  You have my nose, my lips... everything.  But how?  How how how?  You're over a hundred years old, for God's sake!  Don't tell me plastic surgery... I mean, look at Madonna.  She's, what, almost sixty now?  She looks like a piece of plastic!  You... you're beautiful.  And somehow younger looking than me.  I don't get it.... I don't get it..." she rambled on and on.  I listened to her, grateful that she hadn't tried to attack me.  I couldn't be guaranteed that my natural vampiric instincts wouldn't have kicked in then.

"I don't get it but I believe you," she finally stated.  How did you pull it off?"

What do I do now?  If I told her about my true nature, the Volturi could find out and that would bring a world of trouble not only onto Melody, but my whole family as well.  I sighed and just jumped right in.  "I know this is going to sound insane, and you may want to lock me in the nut house... not that I haven't already been there...but I'm a vampire.  But don't worry! I won't harm you.  It's not like that.  I only drink from animals."

Melody's eyes dashed to the living room.  "Buster!" She jumped up.

I rolled my eyes.  "I won't hurt your dog.  I'm completely civilzed.  I just have a different diet.  I would never harm you or your dog."  The dog didn't smell that great anyway.  And I would never hurt someone's pet.

Melody returned slowly to the room.  "How do I know this is real?  I mean, vampires aren't real."

"Come here.  I promise I won't hurt you."  I placed her hand on to my chest.  She shuddered, probably at my cold hand.  "I don't have a heart beat."  She felt around, but couldn't find anything.  She put her hand on my wrist and then my neck, checking my radial and carotid arteries.  Nothing.  She dashed out of the room again and returned with a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff.  She checked several sites for a pulse.  She even took my blood pressure.  "Zero over zero.  Impossible.  You're... dead?"

"Well.... sort of.  It's a really long story.  I have to tell you right now, if you want to hear everything, I have to swear you to secrecy.  Don't tell your parents, any friends or boyfriend, not even the dog!"

Melody nodded.  "I have to know.  I trust that you won't hurt me.  Your skin is so cold and you have no pulse at all.  You HAVE  to clue me in.  Not a soul, I promise."

We sat back on the dining room table.  "OK, well here goes...."
