KOL's POV
It was really quiet in the attic. I didn't realize how accustomed I was to hearing Davina's steady heartbeat, and her even breathing, but now the silence in the room was almost suffocating without it.

Faintly with my vamp hearing, I picked up on the snippets of conversation between Vincent and Marcel downstairs,

"You don't understand Marcel. This transformation, the loss of her magic. It will destroy her. She can't handle it." Vincent was reasoning with him urgently.

"Don't you think I know that Vincent?" Marcel snapped, "I know this is the worst possible thing she could imagine. Believe me, I didn't want this life for her, but I wasn't there to protect her and now she's a vampire. So we're going to let her decide when she wakes up." I tuned out, staring at Davina longingly.

She was still unconscious in her bed. So breathtakingly beautiful it made my heart hurt. It had been almost an hour now that I sat in the same chair she had, waiting for me to wake up in my new body all those months ago. I put my head in my hands, closing my eyes. She had worried about me and my crazy thirst and for once...

It was my turn to fret. I knew firsthand the kind of blinding, unquenchable hunger she would wake up with, the choices she would have to make. Either way it would change everything. And I knew it was selfish to want her to become a full vampire with me, but I couldn't let her die. There was still so much left for her, there was still so much left for us.

Suddenly a small, "Kol.." rang out in the silence. I jumped up out of my chair, speeding to her side. I leaned over the edge of the bed taking her in as she was. I knew in the next few minutes I'd have to deal with a onslaught of panic, and anger, and confusion.

"Hey love. How are you feeling?" She squinted up at me, pushing herself to a sitting position,

"My head hurts, my back hurts...well I think everything hurts. And I'm really hungry." I cracked a small smile as she giggled. But I knew that her hunger pangs weren't for food but for the people crossing the street below us, "What happened? I just remember you and Marcel coming to rescue me from that witch hunter..." she frowned, her eyebrows scrunching in concentration, "Everything is kind of fuzzy after that."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself. I needed to be there for her. I grabbed her hand encompassing it in mine, trying to ignore the fact that instead of the usual warmth it brought her temperature was now the same as mine...cold, and dead.

"Davina, darling...when me and Marcel went to rescue you, we underestimated how powerful the witch hunter was. He said that the witch race was doomed as long as the magic was erased by any means necessary not just through death without consecration. Marcel..he tried to stop hi-" her eyes widened,
