there is two ways of referring to family members, when it's targeted to other people's families and your own. Since most japanese people are very humble, they talk of themselves as "lower".

referring to other families//
1. mother- okaasan
2. father- otousan
3. big brother- oniisan
4. big sister- oneesan
5. little brother- otoutou
6. little sister- imouto
7. baby [ no matter what gender ]- akachan
8. grandmother- obaasan
9. grandfather- ojiisan
10. uncle- ojisan
11. aunty- obasan

[ grandparents and aunty/uncles are different because "obaasan" and "ojiisan" has longer "aa~'s" and "ii~'s" ]

referring to your own family//
1. mother- haha
2. father- chichi
3. big brother- ani
4. big sister- ane
5. little brother- otoutou [ doesn't change ]
6. little sister- imouto [ doesn't change ]
