Chapter 3: Monty's

The sky was so blue Fern could have sworn it was a painting. The air in Salzburg was a lot cleaner than in London; and Fern loved it. Suddenly she was looking at the positives. Why is that? She didn't care, she was happy.

"Hey Fern, could I come over with you guys for a little while?" Zephier asked hoping to spend a little bit more time with his new friends.

"Well I don't know. Our mum doesn't really like us having friends over." Fern explained as she stared at her feet.

"Then ask her if you can spend some time in the city with us!" Abel practically ordered.

"Yeah I could hang." John said as he walked up behind everyone.

"Dude, you really gotta stop doing that!" Abel said giving him a punch in the shoulder.

School had just ended and the group of teens had just left the building. John had caught them just at the bottom of the steps outside the school that led to the cobblestone streets below.

"So John. What exactly do you do here?" Haran asked the ginning guy who had just put on a pair of slick sunglasses.

"Huh? I don't do much man. Just DJ and have a good time if you know what I mean." John said with a wink.

"You sound useless." Fern hissed with an unimpressed expression on her face.

"I could show you just how useful I can be." John's eyes opened wide and his grin doubled as he leaned over to whisper in her ear.

After he had finished whispering in her ear Fern had looked like she had just seen about twenty ghosts.

"Are you okay Fern!? What did you say to her John!?" Zephier broke out of his usual calm state into a fury.

"Oh relax Zeph! I just told her about the last time a girl called me useless." John said without losing his grin.

"You mean Nie?" Abel asked.

"Yeah, ha ha." John admitted.

"I remember that all too well." Abel sighed. "You guys lasted three hours."

"Ha, you bet we did!"

"Don't worry Fern. He won't do that to you, I won't let him." Zephier said as he put his hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes.

"Thank you, Zeph." Fern said as hugged him, her head resting on his chest. She could hear his heart beating, it felt good.

"Have you seen Nie at all Abel? I haven't said "hello" yet." John snickered.

"Not yet."

"Too bad. I guess I will meet up with her tomorrow."

"Hey!" Haran jabbed John in the side pointed towards Fern.

"Oh, right." John walked over to Fern. "I'm sorry, that was stupid of me. I sometimes forget that not everyone has the same brain as me and I make stupid remarks. Do you think we could still be friends?"

"Yeah I think so. It was kind of stupid of me to take it so seriously as well." Fern smiled.

"Kiss and make up?" John teased.

"Ha, maybe some other time." Fern teased back.

"There we go. Now were all friends! This deserves a drink, what do you say we head over to Monty's?" Abel offered.

"You guys go ahead, Fern and I are going home." Haran began to walk away.

"Actually Haran. I think I am going with them." Fern said as she held Zephier’s hand.
