There has to be at least twenty-five of them. Someone at the bank must've called them, or sounded an alarm. The officers are pointing their guns at us from the cover of there cars and shields.
"You are under arrest for the attempted robbery of Tallahassee Wells Fargo Bank. Put your hands in the air and lie down on the ground," a policeman with a megaphone instructs us. Great. One day in Tallahassee, and we've already managed to get arrested. I turn to face our group a questioning look.
"What's our play here?" I ask.
"We fight 'em off," Riley retorts. "I've been meaning to show you guys this, now seems like a good time..." He takes a breathe, and slowly, a police officer starts to levitate. Well, not exactly. He's sort of floating aimlessly a couple of feet off the ground, but I think I get the idea. The other officers stare at their coworker in bewilderment.
"Anti gravity fields!" Nessa exclaims, ecstatic.
"I guess we're doing this then," Scarlett unsheathes her venomous claws with a growl. I grin, but I feel sick. We didn't bring any of our weapons, so we'll have to rely only on our powers and hand to hand combat skills, which are much better than any humans', but still, twenty-five police is a lot.
"Scarlett, can you distract all of them, just for a second, just so we have time to get to them before they try to blow our brains out?" We're standing about fifty feet away from the officers.
"No problem," she replies.
"Okay, on three," Riley says. "One... Two... Three!" We lunge forwards, and I see the policemen's faces go slack and legs go weak for a moment, but then they regain control of their minds, and groggily come to. Not fast enough. By the time they see we've moved, I'm right in the thick of the nearest group of cops. I raise my fists, and slam them back down on the ground, sending out a massive force field going in all directions. Seven police fly backwards through the air, and land in unison with a thud. I smile, but don't have much time to admire my work, because they're already getting back up. But they look different. They look afraid. Of me. The realization makes me squirm.
Out of the corner of eye, I see Riley, completely engulfed in flames, making his way through the wall of police, tossing fireballs at anyone who steps in his way. He looks like something straight out of Hell. I push aside my feelings, and rush at one of the cops. He pulls his gun, but my fist connects with his face lightning fast. He falters, and I punch him in the gut, lift him easily, and hurdle him towards Scarlett, who nicks him with her claws, sending him into instant paralysis. It looks like he's the fifth one she's frozen. I look for another target, but I'm stopped by the sound of an explosion so loud it rattles my ears.
"Smiles, watch out!" I turn just in time to see a police car that Riley must've hit with a fireball jump twenty feet into the air. And then it comes crashing down on top of me.
I sit up in my bed at our hotel with a jolt, the realization that I wasn't just killed by a flaming car making me smile. But wasn't I? I should be dead. The police, Piget, the robbery... that was no dream. I hop out of the bed, and I can see that I'm wearing the same army green t-shirt and jeans that I was only a moment ago. I check my watch. The time's the same. Hang on. Same clothes. Same time. One second I'm one place, then the next another? I had to have teleported here. I feel my heart quicken with excitement. Awesome! But now that I'm here, I have to figure out how to get back. I close my eyes and visualize the parking lot in front of the bank. I want to go right to where we left Piget lying. We can't lose him. At first nothing happens. So I open my eyes. But when I do, I'm staring at Piget's vacant face. I'm back! I throw him over my shoulder, and in a split second, I'm back at the hotel. I set him down in one of the kitchen chairs, and use some duct tape I found in the closet to secure him to it. Then with a pop, I'm back to where I was before. I survey the scene. Riley is punching as many police as he can get his hands on, and Scarlett, having paralysed all her aggressors, is on her way to help him. Then there's Nessa, fighting three cops at once. I'm sure she can handle them, but why should she get all the fun. I teleport next to her, and she jumps. I wink at her, grab the guy nearest me, and vanish into thin air. I teleport back to the hotel with the cop. He looks around, bewildered.
