Riley found his Magister? How is that possible? We would never have found Luctus, even if we were looking for him.
"I did some research, and I found this thing," He says, handing back a sheet of paper, with a strange six-pronged wheel with a symbol on the end of each one. I recognize mine and Nessa's. This symbol must represent the six Primus Motus Legatus. "I figured out which Primus each division's Magister comes from. Mine is under Asher. Then I did a background check on Luctus, and it turns out that he came in contact with someone named Amare M. They lived in Charleston, South Carolina."
"So you didn't find your Magister. You're guessing," I say.
"They have to be there," Riley insists. His hands grip the wheel tightly.
"Actually, they don't. They could be anywhere. This could be a waste of time. I hope you know that," I warn. I feel my irritability getting the best of me.
"What, you have somewhere better to be than in this car?" Riley snaps. I stay quiet, because to be honest, I don't. So, I sit back, relax, and jump headfirst into the most boring fifteen hours of my life. Nobody seems to want to talk, which I can understand. So for the first two hours or so, I listen to music. Then, I play the alphabet game by myself several times for another 45 minutes. Next, I watch a movie that Nessa had downloaded on her phone. That eats up another 2 hours and 15 minutes. Then, I convince everyone to play a round of the alphabet game. Then, Nessa and Riley both refuse to play again, and I'm out of options. Five hours in, and I'm out of ideas. This is going to be one fun car ride!
"I'm so bored!" I complain, looking out the window at a seemingly endless cornfield.
"I'm so bored!" My own voice relays the words back to me. I snap my head around. Nessa is smiling sheepishly at me. Riley looks at her through the rearview mirror, eyebrows raised.
"So, that's your mimicry thing?" Riley says. Nessa nods.
"That was like...spot on. Like scary spot on," I tell her. When she spoke, I felt like I was hearing a recording of myself.
"Haha, thanks Ash," she replies. Her cheeks are red.
"Who else can you do?" Riley asks. He looks intrigued.
"Oh gosh, I don't even know! The only people I've tried it with are Asher here, and Mr. Gamble," She informs us.
"How about...Morgan Freeman?" Riley requests. Nessa laughs, bowing her head for a moment, then looks up.
"Let me tell you what justice is. Justice is the law," She starts, and let me tell you, if you were looking the other way, you would believe that Morgan Freeman was sitting next to us in that car. "And the law is man's feeble attempt to lay down the principles of decency." She smiles. Then Riley cracks up laughing. Soon, I'm laughing too.
"That was so good!" Riley wheezes with laughter. "From The Bonfires of the Vanities, right?"
"Yeah! Have you seen it? Most people haven't because it's so old." Nessa says.
"Yeah, I've seen it. Only because my parents forced me to. Don't worry, Smiles, You aren't missing anything. It sucked." He chuckles.
"Good to know," I smile. After that, we go back to our quiet time. After a few hours, my eyelids start to feel heavy. Before I know it, they've closed all together. I dream about my gifts. Not just the ones I have, but the last one that I have yet to discover. Teleportation, mind control, shapeshifting. Teleportation, mind control, shapeshifting. Teleportation, mind control...
"Asher!" Riley yells, giving me a very rude awakening.
"Relax, I'm awake! What is it?" I say groggily.
