Impulsively, I reach out to grab Asher. My hands stretch to break his fall. But then, as if gravity is working in tandem with me, he stops falling. He's floating. I smile, remembering my antigravity ability. I cautiously move my hands around, and Asher sways slightly with my every movement. I turn back to the others, who are gazing admiringly at me. Feels good. Nessa's eyes are wide.
"Good catch," She breathes.
"No big deal," I grin. Nessa laughs. Even Gus looks impressed. I lower Asher, who is out cold, slowly to the ground. We check him out, and he seems fine, other than the unconscious part. I guess we'll just have to wait for him to wake up. The four of us sit down in the sand. For the first time since we arrived, I look around. We're on a sort of rocky beach. We're lucky we didn't all get banged up as bad as Scarlett. She's on her feet now, but without Asher's healing I don't know how she would've made it. In front of us, is an ocean the goes on as far as I can see. Behind us, is a thick jungle of palm trees. Not a person in sight. I still can't believe we teleported here.
"Huh?! I'm up! I'm good! Is Scarlett okay? What's going on?" Asher sits up suddenly, startling Nessa.
"Smiles, man, calm down. It's alright. Scarlett's fine, you healed her." I assure him. He relaxes.
"So, welcome to Grenada," Gus says with a smirk. I shoot him a glare. I won't lie, I don't like the guy. But I guess my opinion doesn't matter. If he's one of us, he's one of us.
"Where exactly in Grenada are we?" Scarlett asks. Good question. I have no clue. Nessa pulls out google maps.
"We're in Sauteurs, Grenada. It's like a half an hour drive to Gouyave from here!"
"Oh yeah? Do you see a car? How long of a walk is it?" Gus snorts. Nessa rolls her eyes and consults her phone.
"You know, you're kind of mean," She says.
"Yeah? What did you expect? My name is literally disgust. Doesn't have the most positive connotation to it," He smirks.
"Just saying," Nessa continues, "Maybe you would make some friends if you tried a little harder."
"Girl has a point," I agree. Gus gives me a look.
"Whatever," He mutters.
"It's a four hour walk to Gouyave," Nessa informs us. "And to be honest with all of you, I don't think I have the energy to make that trip. The teleporting took a lot out of me I guess."
"You're telling me," Asher mumbles, getting a few much needed laughs from the group.
"I completely agree," Scarlett says. "Maybe we should spend the night here. Sun's setting anyway."
"That's a good plan. Tomorrow we'll go to Gouyave and find Tristitia." We all set up makeshift beds using our duffel bags and backpacks. I'm just about to crash, when Gus speaks up.
"Shouldn't we... I don't know, keep watch? I mean, we are in enemy territory after all." He's right, we don't want to end up where ever Tristitia is now.
"Okay, you want first watch then?" I ask. He realizes I've put him in a box, and scowls.
"Yeah, I'll do it," He sighs, and sits up on his duffel.
"Good night, everyone," Nessa whispers, starting a chorus of goodnight wishes. As soon as my head hits my duffel, I feel the exhaustion seep through my bones. I don't think I could get back up if my life depended on it. And at least for now, I don't have to.
My eyes open lazily and survey the scene in front of me. Pinks, blues, oranges and purples stretch across the sky, forming a breathtaking sunrise. I yawn and sit up. My body is stiff from sleeping on top of my duffel. I look around and see Gus, propped up against a nearby palm tree, alert as ever.
