T/W Child abuse and cutting.
Lance didn't belong with his team. He could tell. The truth still burnt into his heart and made a home inside his already destroyed, cold heart.
He thought he was nothing, becoming quieter and quieter as the days dragged onto weeks and then into months. No one noticed.
No one cared when he stopped coming to breakfast, lunch and dinner.
No one cared when he stopped laughing.
No one cared when he stopped joking.
No one cared when he stopped flirting.
No one cared when he started spending excessive amounts of time in his room.
No one could hear him scream.
Everyone picked up on the fact that his smiles said that he was OK. No one noticed the tears behind his smile.

"Great job, Keith! You did amazing out there!"
"Nah, it was all Hunk."
"No, no, no, if it wasn't for Pidge's awesome hacking skills we wouldn't have won."
"Well if it wasn't for Shiro, we wouldn't have this victory!"
Lance smiled, hanging back as usual, his smile full of pain as he spoke to his lion.
Did I do OK?
You did more then OK, my cub.
Promise?
I promise.
Thank you...
Do not doubt yourself. They do not know your pain, young one.
But what is they found out? I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I was a burden to them...
Follow your heart, you will find a way.
"LANCE!"
Lance sighed, looking at his team with a fake smile.
"Yes...?"
"We were just telling you that Allura wants to do a bond exercise. Again." Hunk rolled his eyes.
Keith smirked "Wonder who's to blame for that."
Lance knew it was him, but he didn't bother making a response.
"Let's just get this over with..."
A flash of confusion flickered on Hunk's face. But it was gone in a flash. "Yea, let's go."
~~
"FOCUS ON THIS, FOR GOD'S SAKE LANCE!"
"Stop shutting us out!"
"Oh wow, look at the 'Brave and Handsome Sharpshooter' now! Whatchu gonna do? Cry like a little-"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP!" The others reeled back in shook, surprised by Lance's outburst and the tears filling the blue paladins eyes. "It's hard for me.. Because I'm the one who brought it all on myself."
~~
"Mama! Look at the stars! Look at the sea! Isn't it pretty!" five year old Lance said, pulling his mother to the rocks by the Cuban beach. He looked excited, his cheeks pink and his eyes sparkling.
His mother smiled, the moon and stars illuminating the mother and child. mother and child.
"They are beautiful, Mi hijo."
