It was the night of Lucas's first game, when Keith entered the cafe.
" Karen! You ready to go?" Keith asked
" Oh. I'm not going. I decided to stay open. I could use the business." Karen replied while cleaning the counter
" You talk to Luke about this?" Keith questioned while putting his coat on
" No. But he'll understand." Karen stated
"Karen-"
" She doesn't want to go. She doesn't want to see her high school sweetheart slash your brother Dan slash the jerk who abandoned Lucas and Maya slash the father of Nathan, the team's star player slash my wrists if I hear this story again. Lets go" Haley interrupted walking towards the door
" Besides Luke has us, Leave her be uncle Keith" Maya added while linking arms with Haley
Keith looks at Karen as he steps backward toward Haley and Maya. "I think you're making a mistake." Keith told her before the trio make their way outside

In the gym The players are warming up. Dan walks onto the bleachers behind Keith, Haley and Maya.He pats Keith on the shoulder and Maya sent a glare his way before turning to the court again
"Keith! Hey. Finally came to see your nephew play, huh, big brother?" Dan asked
"Yeah. I guess you can say that." Keith replied sharing a look with the two girls
Lucas shoots a basket. Dan is in the bleachers behind him
" Son!" Dan shouted
Lucas turns around. Dan and Lucas stare at each other uncomfortably until NATHAN runs over and throws a basketball at Lucas
"You got this Luke" Maya shouted in hopes of helping her twin while simultaneously giving Nathan daggers
A whistle blow
Lucas goes to catch the ball and narrowly missed hitting Peyton with it Lucas runs back to the game. An opponent has the ball and Lucas is unable to stop the opposing team from scoring a basket. Whitey and Dan shaked their heads. Lucas is thrown the ball. He goes to shoot and misses. Keith Haley and Maya all wince. He tries again and misses again. After the third time, Nathan grabbed the ball and shot it in. Whitey benched Lucas to which made a sad look appear on Maya's face
*************** Maya had been waiting in Lucas's room for him to return after the game in hopes of cheering him up. She heard the door go and some words were exchanged between him and Karen before he was standing in the door way. Maya patted the other side of the bed to which Luke complied to the order.
"Hey how you doing" she asked him moving to lay her head on his shoulder
"Fine" Lucas replied
" you don't have to be, it's your first game you need to get use to sharing the court with the golden boy and seeing Dan, I know I need to but I will for you big Buba" Maya confessed
" Thanks Twittie, am lucky to have you" Lucas said giving her a kiss in the forehead before she moved towards the door. Once Maya had left his room he noticed a small piece of paper on his bedside table and smiled knowing it was one of the few drawings she had let him see.
