Chapter 9
The next couple of days breezed by, thankfully there were no awkward moments in regards to running into Jaz and although grateful; Phia believed she should do something to help the awkwardness between them. In short Phia wanted to get to know Jaz, maybe even one day become her friend, unfortunately, as things stood, that wasn’t about to happen anytime soon.
Work was interesting and even though things were in something of a mess, it didn’t take too long for Phia to get things in order. Jacob was a good boss; he left her to get on with what needed doing, only interrupting her when it was necessary.
She’d gone shopping with Nate and bought a mobile phone. He immediately added his number as well as several other Enforcers then told her get all three of her shadows to add theirs as well. Phia was also happy she was able to contact her friend John and had spoken to him several times already. She missed him and hoped he’d visit soon.
Each day passed and the connection between her and Nate grew, she loved him, trusted him with her life but still she held back. She wasn’t ready to take the final step and mate with him. He never asked, never pushed the issue and not once did he ever try to make her feel badly about it.
The trouble was she did feel badly, he was her mate and she wanted him, but the fear instilled in her when she’d been attacked was still with her. Whenever they became too intimate, memories would rush back and she’d freeze up. This also set the nightmares off again too.
Phia wanted to do something special for Nate, but had no idea what. She was considering this as she made her way back to the little cottage she was living in with Nate. She caught movement in her peripheral vision and turned towards it. It was Cord, on his way home, and that’s when it hit her.
A smile crept onto her face, it would take a bit of planning and she’d need to keep what she was going to do from Nate, but she was hopeful. By the time she had dinner ready that evening she had a plan.
After Nate left next morning Phia went about her normal routine, tidying up and checking to see if she needed anything for their evening meal. An hour later she slipped out the front door and took herself for a walk. That her walk eventually moved close to the clinic and Jaz didn’t go unnoticed by Mike who was currently shadowing her.
“Phia, what are you up too?”
“Umm, I don’t know what you mean?” she replied.
Mike came up beside her and giving her a crooked smile, “If you don’t tell me, I’ll have to ask Nate?”
“Fine!” Phia grumbled realising she had no choice but give him some kind of explanation. “I wanted to go see Jaz. Now that I’m a Were, I have a few questions about… girl things.” She smiled ever so innocently at him, “Unless you’d like to have a go at answering them?”
The expression on Mike’s face said it all, she started walking and he followed without another word. When they got close to the clinic Phia turned to Mike, “I’d like to talk to Jaz alone, you know about girl stuff?”
Mike took the hint, “I’ll be close by. Give me a call when you’re ready to leave okay.” then he moved away leaving Phia to suck up all the courage she could before entering the clinic.
The door was open so Phia took a few tentative steps inside. She’s only been here once but still remembered the layout, of what she’d seen of it. The sound of chatter caught her ear and she moved slowly towards it, a moment later a male juvenile came running past her, he looked abut thirteen or fourteen. He gave her nod in acknowledgement and headed out the door. Phia turned back to the door and closed it, not wanting to be disturbed and hoping Jaz would understand why she was here.
