Chapter 6
Phia snuggled close to Nate, she wasn’t too fond of flying and as they took off she squeezed Nate’s hand. She relaxed notably when he wrapped his arm around her and kissed the top of her head.
“I’ve got you love, I’ve got you.” He couldn’t help the smile on his face; it had been close to the surface ever since she agreed to return to the Compound with him. “I’m not overly found of flying either, as a Were, it kind of goes against the grain to enclose yourself in a small space above ground with no means of escape.”
Phia looked up at Nate worry written across her face. “Are we safe? I mean we won’t wolf out and go crazy will we?”
He tried to hold back his laugh, as did everyone else on board. “We’re safe my little mate, we have our wolves under control. I’m more concerned about you at the moment?”
“I… umm, I’m fine. Just keep holding me okay. It’s calming and makes me feel safe.” She smiled softly and lowered her head to rest it on his shoulder.
Nate was warmed by what she had said. Mates sometimes had difficulties bonding and s trust took time, but Phia had trusted him from the moment he’d met her. Nate’s heart was full. His mate had been through so much and still she trusted him, not only to be close to her, but to hold her.
Phia was putting her future in the hands of someone she barely knew and that made Nate even more proud of her for having the strength to do so. She may well be a submissive, but Phia had shown great strength both during the attack on her and since being changed. Nate stroked her hair and closed his eyes. The flight would only take a couple of hours and he wanted to enjoy the relative peace they had before landing.
All too soon the plain was coming in for a landing and as with the take off Phia clung to Nate. He didn’t complain, he held her right back and smiled the entire time. When the plane came to a stand-still Nate kissed Phia on the top of the head. “We’re here my little Phia. We have a bit of a drive and then we will be at the Compound, your new home.”
Phia did her best not to look like she was nervous. “You’ll stay with me, won’t you?”
“Always!”
Marcus a Pack Enforcer was waiting for them when they disembarked from the plane. The two cars they’d driven to the airport were still there, but with Phia’s belongings and the three extra people they needed another car. Fortunately Marcus had the foresight to hook up a trailer to the back of his car so a good deal of the luggage went in there.
Eli and Cade got in the front of one of the cars and Nate and Phia climbed in the back seat. Phia’s eyes were everywhere at once trying to get a sense of where they were. Marcus had smiled at her and she’d given him a nod in acknowledgement in return, but didn’t say anything. She knew there would be a lot of changes to contend with, especially now that she was a Were and she was desperately trying not to think about it all.
They drive went all too quickly and Phia soon found herself standing in front of a small cottage. She turned to Nate, “Is this where we are going to be staying?”
He smiled at her, “Yes love, at least until we have a place of our own.” he saw how nervous she was becoming and took a hand in his. “There are two bedrooms Phia, I won’t push you into something you aren’t ready for.”
She nodded and he gave her hand a squeeze, “So how about we go inside and you can see what you think of the place?”
“I’d like that,” she tugged his hand and moved towards the front door.
