Chapter 1
Braedon Romanoff sat at his desk doing paperwork and checking emails. He was the Alpha of the biggest and strongest Pack in New South Wales, respected by all and often called upon for advice and help from other Alphas.
The past few weeks had been relatively quiet and he’d been able to relax and spend some quality time with his mate, Kasey. He leaned back in his chair and sighed. He wanted to enjoy the moment of calm, knowing full well that it wouldn’t last.
The phone rang and he waited, picking up on the fourth ring, noting the caller I.D as he did so. “Blake, it’s good to hear from you.”
Blake Greyson was Alpha of a Pack further north, just outside of Lismore. His lands ran alongside the Bundjalung National Park which gave them an even larger area to hunt and easier access to prey. The Pack was smaller than Braedon’s, still establishing itself but growing in numbers. Braedon had known Blake a good many years and had a great deal of respect for the man.
He heard a long sigh on the other end of the phone and felt his gut tightened, pushing his calm right out the door. He remained silent, expecting the worst. Blake was never one for being dramatic and this knowledge told him that whatever the Alpha had to say was serious.
“We have a problem and as much as I hate to ask… I need your help.”
“Blake, we’ve been friends a long time, what’s happened that it is so difficult for you to ask for help or advice?”
There was another sigh, “Word has it that Nicolas found his mate, and that she’s an Omega?”
Braedon didn’t like where this might be heading, but responded. “Yes, it was something of a surprise to us all that Chrissy was an Omega, but she was obviously a welcome addition to the Pack.”
“I need her… that is to say; my Pack has need of her services.” Blake took a deep breath before continuing. “I know this is somewhat unorthodox, but I’m in dire need.”
“I’ll listen to what you have to say Blake, but Nicolas will need to be here as well. Chrissy is his mate and he’ll need to give the go ahead.”
“Understood.”
Braedon sent his brother a silent message through their sibling bond asking Nicolas to come to his office. Both Alpha’s remained silent until Nicolas arrived, thankfully he had been close by and arrived within minutes.
“Brae, what do you need?” Nicolas strode into the room a look of concern on his face.
“I’m not sure as yet,” he indicated he should take a seat and switched the phone to speaker. “Blake, Nick is here and,” he looked towards the door, “so is Jake. The floor is yours.”
Jacob took a seat next to Nicolas and waited for Blake to speak. He too had known the man for some time and that all three of them were closeted in Braedon’s office to hear what the man had to say, did not bode well as far as Jacob was concerned.
“I’m glad you’re both there, especially you Nick.”
Nicolas immediately sat forward in his seat, “What’s going on Blake?”
“We have something of a situation at the moment. One of my men, John took it upon himself to watch over a young human woman. Her name is Sophia Rose; she’s so small, she looks more like a young girl than a fully grown woman. She’s an innocent and at the moment she’s sitting in a corner in her room and she’s terrified of us.”
