I rolled over on my old, queen sized bed and stretched. My five foot five body frame stretched out under the old comforter as I ran a hand through my long auburn ponytail that fanned out over the pillows.

Nothing was on TV, and it the middle of the night, so of course he was asleep and  currently dead to the world. Meaning that I had no one to talk to.    I snorted irritably, rolling my nearly black brown eyes at the thought of my comatose friend.

I picked my laptop up, and logged into my video chat. With a casual glance to the screens clock, I registered that it was nearly five in the morning. My brow raised as I contemplated whether this was a good idea or not.

He'll live, I thought with a slight smirk playing on my lips. I guided the cursor over the "Call" icon and clicked it. A melody resounded in my tiny apartment room while the call was trying to connect. I lay back on my pillow lazily as I waited for him to pick up. After about two minutes, a frown began to paint my soft features until I heard a familiar rustling coming from my laptop.

I leaned towards the computer screen and saw a familiar pile of blue comforter. A grunt of annoyance seemed to come from underneath the pile. Trying not to giggle, I raised an eyebrow in amusement before I start to speak.

"Hello?... Wakey wakey." I tried, my voice filled with glee.

A head of dirty blonde hair poked out from under the bundle of covers and turned to face me through the camera.  With a moan of disapproval, he whimpered and tried to curl back into his bed.

What....do you want....woman." He growled, sleepily.

I smiled at the comment and replied smartly, "now why would you think I want anything?" Playfulness lingered in my tone.

With a snort, he grumbled. "Wouldn't be the first fucking time."

A laugh fell from my lips as I clutched the soft expanse of my stomach. He really knew me too well. Of course, in my defense, I don't like asking for things from anyone. Though, it's different with Shane.

"Now now, don't be so moody. You're master is very bored and I just wanted someone to talk to. Is that so bad?" I let a bit of innocence trickle through my voice and watched as he rolled his amber eyes at me.

"With you, always. If you're so bored then just go to sleep Mr. King of the night." The sarcasm was evident in his tone, and like the gentleman I was, I flipped him off.

"It's not that easy today, come on Shane, help me. We could just talk until I fall asleep." I fiddled with the end of my ponytail casually. He should help, I thought, I didn’t ask for much, did it?

Then again, this is Shane Dominic Spears were talking about.

"Fine Audrey, what do you want to talk about?" The sleepy roughness from his voice began to relax me already. I thought for a moment and I whisper shouted at the screen- I don't want to wake my mum up - "Oh! What about the time we were at May's and we just watching Toonami until I started singing?"

"Yeah, you sounded like two cats fighting over who gets to be top bitch in the alley." The comment had me fuming, and I couldn't stop the involuntary glare that my face had formed.

"I didn't hear any complaints! Besides, you were the one who fell asleep while I sang that lullaby." I huffed in protest.

Honestly people nowadays. I watched as he tilted over, seemingly not caring that I was the slightly miffed. He definitely likes pissing me off, though I didn’t know why.

"It was my body's defense mechanism against the bad music." He stated matter of factly.

I rolled my eyes and spat “bullshit” flatly in front of the screen. Leave it to Shane to get under my skin without neccessarily starting an argument with me. Laying on my stomach, I rested my head on the smooth tan length of my arm and played with a lock of my hair.

"How did it go anyway?" He inquired with a tone I was unfamiliar with.

"How did what go?" I looked over to the computer screen lazily to find him starting up at the ceiling like he usually does. I guess his thoughts were wandering because it took a second for him to answer.

"The song you were singing, how did it go?"

I hummed the melody, searching for a suitable way to describe it clearly, and thought better of it. Knowing him, no matter how well I describe something,he will not understand it until he sees it or hears it himself. With that in mind, I began to sing a lullaby from one of my favorite films as a child softly.

             "Sleep now, my baby

            be still now, don't cry.

Gently be rocked by the sea.

           Sleep and remember my lullaby.

          Holding you, I'm smiling too."

I  looked back at the computer screen tiredly to see that he'd dozed off. I gazed at his boyish face and wondered about the peaceful expression that lay there molded from his features. A tiny spark of warmth nestled itself in my chest. Suddenly, a single thought ran through my mind that I didn't have time to think about before my eyelids began to get heavy. The last of the lyrics to the lullaby began to spill from my lips as I began to doze off along with him

                  "Holding you......

                  I'm....

                  Smiling too...."

With the calming darkness of sleep beginning to sink into my mind, I didn't know that one thought would eventually change Shane and my relationship. Though for the better or for the worse, I didn't know, but we wouldn't be the same again.

Shane has a really cute face when he sleeps.
