CHORUS

Karlie holds the flashlight in her left hand while her right one is intertwined with Taylor's. The blonde would sometime squeeze Karlie's hand whenever she hears a noise, but the brunette would just roll her eyes and assure her that everything's fine. Taylor has always been the worrier between the two, and Karlie finds it a blessing and curse considering that it would balance their dynamic, with Karlie as the stubborn one, but sometimes, Taylor's anxiety over the simplest of things never fails to get into her nerves.

"What if there's an old man in a white van who takes children when he's bored is waiting for us?" Taylor asks, her voice laced with fear.

"Then we'll run. If he's old, then he can't chase us," Karlie assures, her eyes focused ahead of them as they near their favorite tree in the yard, where they carved their secrets in. Taylor calls it 'The Tree of Secrets' and a huge 'KK + TS' were carved in the middle of the trunk. "He'll crack his bones."

"What if he's not old? What if he's a healthy young man who likes to kill naughty children who sneaks outside their yard in the middle of the night?" The two stops when they finally approach the tree. They both sits crossed legs on the ground, and Taylor immediately snatch Karlie's flashlight and turned it off. Karlie was about to protest until Taylor hiss," I'm saving us, you idiot. He won't spot us if the lights are off." Taylor whispers, trying to be as quiet as possible.

"How about you shut up? You're making things up! You're going to get crazy," Karlie raises her volume on purpose and that's when she feels a long cold metal being forcefully pressed against her chest as she hears shuffling that goes into the direction of the other side of tree. "You're being dramatic, Taylor," Karlie states in disbelief.

"No, I'm not. If you want to get killed, the go. I don't want to get involved. I have a dream unlike you," Taylor whispers, but loud enough for Karlie to hear. The younger brunette turns the flashlight on and gets on her feet, ready to scan the trunk for a new secret that Taylor carved while she was gone yesterday for her ballet lessons.

"I have a dream," Karlie argues, still doing her search. Taylor was in love with carving secrets in their tree, but Karlie thinks it must be painful. The wood is mainly covered by Taylor's words, with a secret or 3 of Karlie in sight. The younger girl would rather keep hers in the back of her best friend's journal and every night, before Taylor will write an entry about her day's accounts, she'll flip on the last pages first to see if Karlie has written anything. That is their way of telling secrets, because Taylor believes it's best for them to have a reminder of their friendship or how it will be useful if one of them forgets. Karlie loves Taylor's idea, and since then, they've been sharing secrets the way they prefer.

"Your dream consists of you sitting in a huge chair with a massive screen in front of you, checking and predicting the weather for people or whatever. Anyone can do that, and that's so boring," Taylor says in a hushed whisper once again.

"Huh?" Karlie stops her search, puzzled at the blonde's statement. She scrunched her face in confusion, entirely having no idea what Taylor is trying saying.

"You said you wanted to be a meteorologist?" Taylor asks using the same tone once again. The green eyed girl wrote that specific secret right exactly at the left corner in page 97, the 3rd last page.

"Yeah. I love space," Karlie mutters, now staring in a newly carved secret in the bottom left of the tree, almost near the roots.

"I want to adopt cats when I grow up. Lots of them! - T" She cringe at the number of letters Taylor used. It must've been painful and hard to write this in Taylor's part, she thought.

"Meteorologists don't study meteors, they predict the weather, stupid," As the taller girl's search comes to an end, she heads where Taylor is sitting, glaring down at the smiling girl. Despite her being offended, she can still find Taylor's blue eyes beautiful. They're always shining, same goes to Taylor's smiles. She envied and loved Taylor for that, and she mentally promised herself that she will do anything just to keep the glow in Taylor's face.
