Chapter 2
Beep… Beep… Beep… I hear the sound of the hospital. I sit in a chair next to Noah’s bed. I listened for 24 hours to the sound of the heart rate monitor of Noah. Every hour came a nurse to check if everything is okay. At first they didn’t want to tell me what happened. It was so frustrating. It was one of the worse days in my life.
It all started when I heard that I had a bad note for my English test (Yeah, it frustrates me when I have a bad note. You could say that I’m kind of a nerd). Then I had that stupid argument with Ryan. Next, when I came downstairs and heard that Noah was in the ICU, I went as fast as possible to the hospital but of course, there was a giant traffic jam. After an hour, which normally takes 20 minutes, I was finally at the hospital. And then there was that stupid nurse who wouldn’t let me in because I’m not a family member of Noah. Like WTF?! Hello, it’s my boyfriend! We have been dating for 6 months and one stupid nurse is going to tell me that I’m not allowed to see Noah?! Hell no. So after her shift was over, a really sweet nurse let me in Noah’s hospital room. Then came the problem that nobody still wanted to tell me. When I was finally alone with Noah in the room, I picked up the papers where the nurses always write down notes when they finished checking Noah. I thought here must be saying what’s wrong with Noah right? So being the badass I am, I read his dossier. And then I became really shocked. I read that he has been shot just above his heart after being beaten up.
I was still shocked from what I had read one hour ago. I sometimes whispered things like everything will be okay, I love you, or you will recover soon. Spending time here in the hospital and watch Noah’s heartbeat was definitely not what I was supposed to be doing right now. I was supposed to do nice things with him and celebrate our half-year official relationship. And with that I felt tears coming up. Why did it have to be Noah? Why now? Why would someone do this to him?
“Jessica? Are you okay?”
Hearing the voice shocked me. I didn’t hear anyone come in. When I looked up, I saw the sweet nurse standing in front of me.
“Hey. Yeah I’m okay, thanks.” I said back.
“Maybe you should go home. You need some sleep.”
“But I don’t want to. I want to stay here with Noah.”
“I can’t let you stay here. My shift is almost over and you are actually not allowed to stay here. If they see that you are in here we will have some problems.”
“Yeah... I understand. Can I stay here for 5 more minutes?”
“5, not more okay? I will call you if there is something wrong.”
And with that, she walked away. “Okay, thank you.” I’m not sure if she heard that. I said it softly.

It has now been one week since Noah was hospitalized. He was still at the ICU and was still in a coma. I visited him every day. But today I can’t. I had a long school day and already have homework! Teachers think that we like to do homework or something?
It was now 8:30 pm, and I could tell you that I’m very exhausted. I haven’t had a good night’s sleep since Noah was in the hospital. Maybe tonight will be the first? I hope so.
Knock. Knock. “Jess, are you there?” I heard William say.
“Yes Will, I’m here.”
The door flew open and Will ran into my room. In the next moment I couldn’t breathe because of the bear hug from Will.
´Will... Can’t... Breathe.”
