Chapter 3

The lessons were boring and my mind was focused on something other than squares, roots, division, and those kinds of things. My mind was set on Noah. I was drawing in my notebook when Brooklyn tapped me. It was silent in the classroom and everyone was looking at me. Oh no… Gosh. I was daydreaming and I guess Mr. Howell asked me something. I looked at Brooklyn in hope that she could give me the answer. “Um Mr. Howell I think the answer…” I looked over to Brooklyn to see that she wrote in big numbers 78 “…is 78. ”

“Mrs. Jones. The answer is good but how did you come to that answer? Could you explain it to us? ”

“Uh-uh I for-forgot how I c-came up with it sir. ” I stuttered. This is so embarrassing.

“Jessica don’t daydream in my lessons in the future. I will forgive you now but the next time you will get detention. ”

“Yes Mr. Howell.”

The rest of the math lesson flew by and before I knew it, I was in the cafeteria eating my lunch with my friends. I sat at my usual spot with Brooklyn, Laura, and Shirley. Brooklyn is my best friend who I have known since kindergarten and Laura and Shirley since Junior High.

“How was your first period?” asked Shirley

“Boring as usual and I hate math and Mr. Howell more then before.” I answered.

 “Why?” Laura asked.

“Because I was thinking about Noah instead of the lesson and Mr. Howell said that if I daydream one more time in his lesson, I would get detention. But anyways, how was you first period?”

“Okay. Just the usual – copy down notes, listening, and working. Nothing special.” said Brooklyn.

“Hey guys, I have an idea.”

“Okay Laur, what kind of stupid idea do you have now?”

“Ha-ha. Very funny Shirley, but my idea is that we can maybe hang out tonight at my house. My parents are again at a business trip so I’m home alone. We can watch a movie or something. Just a girls night with fun.”

“Okay, okay. I have to congratulate you. This was a pretty good idea. I’m in.”

“Cool! I’m in too. But are your parents on a business trip again?!” said Brooklyn.

“Yeah... It feels like Ann is my mother instead of my own mom and I don’t have a dad. They are never home anymore...” sighed Laura.

It’s sad for Laura that her parents are always away. They own their own company and are always on business trips. I don’t know why because my parents also have their own company but rarely go a business trip. And if they go we (my brothers and I) go along. But her the person who takes care of her, Ann, is really sweet.

“Aw... I’m sorry for you Laur... But I’m also in. So what time do we meet at your house?”

“Do you guys want to eat dinner with me? Or are you guys eating at home? And I can ask Ann if you can all sleepover. If you guys want.”

“YEAAH! Sleepover with Laura! That’s always fun and yes, I want to stay for dinner please. Ann is such a good cook. Wow this night is going to be amazing. And in the middle of the week.” responded Shirley a little too excited.

“HAHAHA Laura! Ha-ha you are so funny when you are excited.” I said during my laughter.

And then the school bell rung, signalizing that we had 5 more minutes till the start of next period.
