It had been a long time indeed.
The Queen must be awaiting his return, approximately 700 more years ago. Ivan strood along side the beach, just like how he did it every night since that day, not needing to look anywhere else but the sea and it's reflection of moonlight. Today was a particulary happy moon. Every step, every move, is like a muscle memory since he was born, it knows where every big rocks that he used to trip on 650 years ago lays.
Which best part of the beach is to fish, which part has dangerous animals, and which contains beauty. Like the home he left in Russia. Now that home is nothing but ashes of wood mixed with the ashes of his fallen family. Bela and Raina, his two sisters who awaited instead was handed a memorial of flowers and sword.
He recalled times when that cabin that stands near by the cliff was built. Saw how from time to time it's once brightly coloured wood now tinted darker after standing for years, how it's once clear window now has it's edges dirtied by weather. But the man who once a month attended to it never once appeared outside of coming in and out the very next day.
Now the waves were larger, crashing and pounding it's solid and at the same time liquid form to the formation of rocks chipped by the sea. The stars were unusually bright and it twinkles like how toodlers heard from songs.
He reminded himself, sitting on the sand just outside of view from the cabin's windows.
That time rolled itself like the waves, memories after memories of how that day was played like an old 90's record. From the gleam of storm to the light surrounding him after The God of Sea bestowed upon him the curse. The light may be a beautiful blinding white, but for years it meant his impending sorrow.
Ivan tried many ways to die. Only to return to the beach again, alive and unscathed. 'No use' he finally told himself after days of trying, it was the truth and as Winter said 'Truth is what we feared, but accepting them is a sign of strength, not of weakness'.
Then today happened.
Just like usual, the owner was back, presumably to go back again the next day. Ivan was just looking for another shell that might be worth a little money aside from his job as a bartender in a local bar. He may be alive for an eternity, but that doesn't give him the excuse of being a nobody. Ivan owned a small house just outside of city and near the beach, his actual home.
It start off with a stroll in his favourite old robe Raina made for him before the journey. Now worn but still precious.
Then he met him. The same person that stared at him once in the battlefield with dull blue eyes, but his hair a more vibrant blonde, rivaling the sand in almost familiar beauty. It strike him, the eyes, a blue of ocean in afternoon reflecting the sun light and freckels of it. Somehow in different light it changes to a sky blue.
When he turned to him.
Ivan thought on one thing.
Beautiful.
They spent the rest of the afternoon to sunset in comfortable silence and short conversations. In the end Alfred had to go and bid him farewell. It strike Ivan almost like a stoorm, was he the descendant? Is Alfred the one who can free him. Surely the resemblence- although a little far fetched was there.
He shook his head and began the walk back to his small house.
Once he arrived. He left the robe on his couch, went to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of vodka (not the same like what he used to have back home, but it'll have to do) and enjoyed the relationship he had with the TV.
Mid way through Dawson Creek season 3 he decided to pick up the book, the only book that told a story of him and quite accurate as well. There is still some wrong points but overall it was almost like an actual retelling that stayed true to the source material.
