chapter four; vanessa's pov
TO SAY I WAS FEELING like a failure was an understatement. Nothing about today was going right. I had forgotten my homework at home, I forgot to pack my lunch money, and I failed to bring my extra pair of pointe shoes because I was so confident that I wouldn't need them. Which by the way earned me two scoldings from my teachers.
Usually I don't ever need an extra pair because I always keep track on when I need to upgrade my pointe shoes but today mine decided to break. Just my luck!
But surely things can't get any worse, right? I mean it's a Friday. Nothing can ruin the joy I feel on Fridays.
"So, what did you think?" Cassandra asks as she finishes rehearsing her audition piece.
She's part of the graduating class which means soon she would start auditioning for prestigious dance companies.
"I think it's great..." It is, but even the best of dancer can always improve something. Whether it's basic footwork or the expressions on your face.
"But?" She cuts me off.
"But when you land on your feet try to not look so stiff. Remember it is key to make it look light and easy. It's what attracts people to the dance. Besides that it's amazing! If you don't get into one of these companies then no one here has a chance." Cassandra nods and continues to work on her piece while I sit on the floor and stretch.
Cassandra and I always butt heads and have our disagreements because of how different we are. But when it comes to ballet we both agree that it should be nothing but perfect and that we should give it our all.
"GUYS! GUYS!" A fun sized ballet dancer yells as she zooms into the studio. Cassandra takes a look at her before rolling her eyes and ignoring her.
"Yes, Mindy?"
"GUESS WHAT DAY IT IS TODAY!"
"Friday..." I say unsure of whether that was the answer she was looking for.
"WELL YEAH BU-"
"Listen up, munchkin. I booked after school studio time so I can rehearse not be distracted. Keep it down!" Cassandra says with a stern look.
"Okay, sheesh. Yes, it is Friday but what happens on Fridays?"
"We get to go home and relax for the next two days?" I ask, even more confused than I was before.
"Yes but today's the capital report on the selection! We'll finally find out who was selected for the prince's selection!" She says as she jumps up and down on her toes.
"Imagine me being chosen! Mindy Dobson from Clermont!" With all the chaos going on the school my mind drifted away from the selection. Now that I had some more time to think about it, I rather get a job than actually participate in it.
After all people do say that with hard work comes success.
"I can see my wedding invitation already. You are cordially invited to the wedding of Prince Beckett and Mindy Dobson." I say, playing along with her.
"Yes! I'll wear a big fluffy white gown and you and Cassandra will be my bridesmaids and will be dressed in baby pink."
"Wait a second, I never agreed to any of this." Cassandra says as she walks over to her water bottle.
"You don't have to. I'll be your future queen so you'll have to do anything I want. Now get me some water." Mindy says and shoos Cassandra away.
"If you became queen you'd burn down the whole country before you could turn every building pink."
