Zuri glanced at the calendar. It was a full moon. She was going to be the only twin in this house tonight. She heard the window open in her brother's room. It was a very soft sound that you had to know what to listen for. He would be back by morning. She heard the lock click to that room and smiled softly.
Hazley glared out the window as he saw his brother running across the lawn silently. Why, oh why, did they have to come tonight? It was one of the worst nights to start out at a new home. He turned away so he wouldn't have to watch his brother make a fool of himself or get caught. No matter what they acted like they the two did not get along well usually. Zuri was the one that tended to hold the family together.
The woman heard nothing of the clicking of locks or opening of windows or the boy running across the lawn. She was in the living room in a blue cushioned rocking chair watching TV. She could hear the TV still on in Daray's room and wondered what he was watching. She had no idea he was not even in the room but running away from the house.
Daray ran across the lawn. He had forgotten about today's date and that could be deadly for him. He felt like he was picking up speed, which was not a surprise. He was faster then most people. He was already out of the city limits within an hour. He could see a swamp ahead. "Thank goodness!" he muttered, knowing it was better than nothing. He shivered but not from cold or the creeps.

The next morning was Saturday and the twins had decided to explore the house and lawn while Hazley slept the day away inside. They found a dog run behind the carport and wondered if their 'mom' had ever had a dog because of the prints in it.
"Hey, Daray. Why aren't you in the dog run?" Zuri called, laughing. "You are as close to a pet as we have here!" The blond stuck her tongue out at her brother running away. They were in car port area instead of risking running over the kumquat trees on the lawn.
Daray glared at her playfully and ran after her. "Well, shorty, shouldn't you be with a family of midgets instead of the giants," he said, knowing he could have come up with something better.
Zuri stopped by the entrance to the driveway that had a fence. Something white had caught her eyes. It was piece of paper with something written on it. She bent down to pull it out and read it. She heard Daray stop behind her and she heard him start talking but she was paying too much attention to what was on the paper. It was written in a clumsy scrawl.
Don't pretend to be something you aren't. ~N.T.
Daray stopped talking, looking over her shoulder in shock. "What? Who is this? How does he know us?" he whispered. He glanced around for any person around that could have left the note and found the area empty.
Zuri glanced around. "We are not telling her about this. She would freak out and want to know what it means," she said, still staring at it in disbelief. She folded it up and put it in her pocket. "I will show it to Hazley later," she added, glancing towards where his window was and seeing the black curtains covering the window.
Daray nodded. "I can go o-"he started to say but was cut off by the blond.
"You will not go out tonight. This could be dangerous. If anyone goes out it will be me, understood?" Zuri said her eyes dead serious. She may be small and fragile looking but she was better prepared then anyone knew.
The boy nodded. He was not going to argue with her when she was this serious about something. She would not hesitate to slap him and she hit hard. Daray glanced at his feet and felt a drop of rain land on the top his head. "Well, looks like we get to go in now," he mumbled turning to go in the house as more drops hits the ground making a pattering sound.
Zuri walked by him as she entered the house and headed back to her older brother's room to wait for him to wake up. She silently opened his door and stepped inside the dark room. She closed the door behind her and sat down to lean against it. He should be up soon but he would not come out of his room until the sun was down. She understood his worry to come outside during the sun. That could be deadly for him.
Hazley looked practically dead as he lay there asleep and unmoving. It didn't help that he was really pale against his bright red hair and pitch black room. That was just the way he liked it.
Daray sat in his room, leaning against the wall and thinking. What could he do without his sister killing him? He was pretty much the baby of the family though they all treated each other pretty equal. Hazley did like to act high and mighty sometimes but he knew that if the twins teamed up they might win. Might. It depended on the day of the week. Other days they would definitely lose. It depends on what time of month it was, who was hungry, and what mood they were in.
