A few hours later as the sun was starting to set Zuri and Hazley sat on his bed discussing the note. Neither one of them knew what to do but understood that they were in major trouble. Someone had found out their family's secret and knew that their 'mom' had no clue.
"What are we-"Zuri started but was cut off by the sound of knocking. She glanced at the door and hopped off the bed silently to look under the door to see whose shoes it was. She let out a sigh of relief as she recognized Daray's and stood up to open the door. She had thought it was their 'mom' and that made her nervous. They were all going to be nervous for a few days.
Daray walked in and glanced at the two. "You fill him in?" he asked Zuri. When she nodded he turned to lean against the wall, not in the mood to sit down yet. "Good. Have you decided what to do?" His grey eyes glared at the ceiling.
Hazley glared at him. "You think we would decide what to do without talking to you?" he muttered, annoyed. He may not like the kid but he did not completely hate him. They were siblings after all. "I might some days but the elf here would never let me." He was making a joke of his sister's height.
Zuri hit upside the back of the head. "Watch what you say," she growled. "Now is not the time to making fun or killing each other for that matter. It is time to be planning, you idiots." She glanced at the other boy. "I won't hesitate to hit you either. So shut up and help us think of something."
They had to be quiet as 'mom' was probably in the living room down the hall since it was not dinner time yet. The three were trying hard to do it but 'mom' could still hear them arguing quietly and the resounding THWACK that Zuri's hand made on the back of Hazley's head. It was worrying that they were arguing so much.
"No fighting in the house! You might break something! Take it outside in the morning!" the woman called over her shoulder at the three kids. She had no clue what was going on but was pretty sure it could end in someone getting hurt. She heard the muffled 'Sorry's come from the other end of the house. "I would think so," she muttered under her breath and turn back to the TV.
Back in Hazley's room the three glared at each other for a few moments, listening to make sure 'mom' had gone back to whatever she had been doing. It was an awkward silence. Daray was the one that broke it. "We should take turns patrolling so that if N.T., whoever that is, comes back we can catch them," he said. He caught the looks from his siblings and decided to amend his statement. "Or at least talk to them."
Zuri nodded slightly. "That sounds better. Who should take first watch?" she asked. She glanced at Hazley and remembered how hungry he must be. "You have to go out tonight to grab a bite to eat so I don't think you should be the one to go on patrol." She saw Hazley open his mouth to object and she raised an eyebrow, daring him to talk.
Daray held back laughter at the sight of his pixie-like sister telling his older brother what to do. It was quite an amusing sight to see. "How about I take first shift?" he asked to keep from laughing even though the amusement was clear on his face.
Hazley sighed, giving up for now. He was not going to argue with both of them. "Fine. Just make sure not to get caught or anything," he muttered, meaning 'mom,' N.T., and anyone else who happened to be about. He stood up abruptly for what looked like no reason and walked quickly towards the window, peaking through the blinds. He motioned his siblings over to let them look.
The thing that Hazley saw outside was a man. He stood across the street and was watching their house. He was tall and was dressed like anyone else but that was about all the twins could tell. Hazley could make out longish brown hair and blue eyes. It was like he was staring right at them.
Zuri was the first to back away from the curtains, then Daray, and finally Hazley. None of them had watched for long. It creepy for all of them the way he seemed to be watching Hazley's room exactly. It was like he knew where they were and everything.
The three shared a worried look as they stood a few feet away from the window. They knew what this meant and it wasn't good. "We have to get him. Now," Daray said even though they knew no one could leave the house yet without getting caught by 'mom.'
Zuri bit her lip nervously. "This is just bloody great," she mumbled under her breath. "We all know we can't leave now. Daray, you can try to find him later. Right now, I think I can smell dinner." She turned towards the door.
"Dinner time!" they heard 'mom' call a minute later.
