"We tried to warn you," Justin sighed, running his hand through the crying boy's hair.

"I know but I thought he was different," Niall's voice cracked. "Why am I so upset? It lasted a week and it was 2 months ago!"

"You loved him though," Josh spoke softly. Niall let out a bitter laugh.

"Loved him? I barely even knew him."

"Did you get him anything for Christmas?" Phil asked.

"Yeah, I did," Niall whispered, thinking of the little black box beneath his bed. He shot up quickly and rubbed his eyes. He grabbed the box and darted from the room before anyone could question him.

Worthless. Good for nothing. Can't do anything. Couldn't even kill yourself. Unwanted. No one loves you. No one will ever love you. Why do you even try?

Zayn's mind swam with different thoughts. He sighed and stood from his bed and made his way to the main school. He hadn't attended classes since after Halloween but he kept ahead of his homework. He couldn't not graduate. Not this close to the end of the year. He advanced towards his maths class with a confident stride. People can't know he's drowning. It must be kept a secret. No one has to know. People cowered towards their locker. Fear printed onto their faces. No one knew when Zayn was going to strike out. But it was bound to happen. It had been too long. The sea of people separated and Zayn smirked. He missed this. But he missed Niall more.

Niall knocked on the door, secretly anticipating the time he'd see Zayn again. He hadn't been attending classes. He had stopped coming to lunch. He'd have thought he had disappeared if he hadn't heard the stories. Then he realized Zayn was avoiding him. The door clicked open and Niall stood face to face with his ex-boyfriend.

"I need Zayn. Is he there?" Niall asked, standing on his tip-toes to peer into the room.

"No sorry babe, but if you're looking for fun I'-," Niall shuddered before cutting Jake off.

"What part of "we're over" did you not get?" Niall spat. Jake smirked at the mess before him.

"The part where we don't kiss and fuck," he replied coolly, leaning in for a kiss. Niall instantly stepped back. Turning on his heel, he walked away from the boy who was expecting a kiss. He had to find Zayn. He was a man on a mission. And he would not be stopped.

Niall spotted Zayn in the back of music class that evening. He was surprised, but he was glad to know he was safe. The tables that were once beside Zayn's were a greater distance away and everyone was afraid to go near him. Everyone except Niall that was. Niall glared at Zayn as he took his seat, allowing the boy to receive all the anger he gathered in the past 2 months. Niall didn't want to feel angry, but he was starting to feel better the more he glared. Zayn glanced towards him, raising an eyebrow, and kicking his feet up on the desk. Reaching into his pocket he retrieved a packet of cigarettes and lit one up. Niall stared shell-shocked. How could he smoke those things? The class was eerily quiet, and the only heard was the inhaling and exhaling of Zayn Malik smoking his fag. A young man not older than 25, edged into the room slowly. He put his books on Mr. Cowells desk and stood there for a minute. He glanced around at all the students, his eyes lingering on Zayn for a moment, before moving on. He was warned about Zayn, and was told to let him away with anything. But he knew Zayn would listen to him no matter what he said. He remembered Zayn. But he doubted Zayn remembered him. It was a long time since they were friends. He cleared his throat, and spoke softly.
