A Hard Question
To never see another smile
crease the corners of my loved ones eyes,
Nor see the innocence of new born family
As grandchildren will no doubt soon arrive.
.
Never again to witness the first snowflake
as Jack Frost brings winter calling,
The first flowers of spring and rainbows,
The sunrise with a new day dawning.
.
To forever be in darkness,
Denied the gift of light,
No longer doing the things I love
Through simple lack of sight.
.
But it's not the end of the world
To be without the use of eyes,
For man invented braile and audiobooks,
Trained dogs to help with daily lives.
.
Other senses will compensate
Hearing, touch, and smell.
So not everything would be at a loss
And in memories I could dwell.
.
Hands to me are everything,
When I consider what they do.
Feed us, dress us, wash us,
Touch our children's faces too.
.
They're a tool of artists visions,
Whether paper, canvas, or stone,
Without them dreams would crumble
And creations stay unknown.
.
Without them that itch would go unscratched,
And who would shave my legs?
Rub tired eyes or aching limbs,
or pick boogers from my neb.
.
You need hands for everyday living,
Such invaluable body parts,
Who the hell wants to be that hand
That cleans me when I shart?
.....
