"Add a little bit of sulfate and," a sigh escaping my mouth after a short moment had passed, then my experiment exploded. "Alright back to the drawing board!" a grin wide on my face, "maybe if i leave out hawk feathers and add lizard tails instead.." deep in thought, i failed to notice that my door was opened. "Varian, what have i told you about experiments in the house? You could get hurt or worse bring the house down." my dad explained once more. "i know, but, dad i think i've got it this time!" i turned towards him with a glimmer in my eye, dad had sighed and started his lecture walking up to the dining room.

"You need to start thinking of where you will be staying, you're almost of age already Varian." Dad had served eggs and bacon with fresh water. A knock at the door halted my fork midair, confused i looked at my dad. He got up and opened the door.

"Quirin we need to talk..."

...

After the exchange, we headed out to collect some supplies for the construction of my own home. Bennett and Abigail said they would help with the design process so it's to my liking.

We walked to a few shops and bought a few things. While walking to the next shop i felt eyes on the back of my head, turning around i gaze into bright blue eyes. The way the sun rays hit them made them look as if they were jewels sparkling. Our eye contact gets broken by a gruff voice startling me,"Varian? What are you looking at?" When i turned back the beautiful eyes i had been staring into were gone."Nothing, i thought i saw something." My dad gave me a confused look before shaking his head and continued walking, queuing for me to follow after.

"Dad, have you ever seen anyone with bright blue eyes before?" He grumbled as he thought, "No, i haven't. No one around here at least, why do you ask." He looked down at me questioningly, "I must have mistaken someone is all, nothing to worry about."  He turned his gaze back forward dropping the odd conversation.

We approached a small shop that seemed to be filled with loads of materials. Looking around the shop was very intricate and resembled that of a cottage, dad turned to who we supposed was in charge, "What types of material do you have? I'm looking for some wool and leather." The shopkeeper was a kind lady with an honest smile. "Yes, i do believe i have what you're looking for. For leather did you want cowhide, lamb skin, or boar hide?" I myself don't have a clue about leather but dad seemed to know, "Lamb skin, please."

With a nod of her head the lady walks to a shelf and grabs a large pile of lambs skin. All of the shelves seemed to have been neatly organized and categorized. "For wool i have sheetland, lambswool, and alpaca, all imported from overseas." She placed the skin on the counter she stood at, "Shetland please, and some alpaca."

After getting our supplies we headed back to old Corona at sun down. Once we got back and put away the supplies, dad started preparing dinner and i headed back into my lab. Ruddiger had apparently let himself as he was asleep on my bed, "Hey buddy, mind scooching over so i can lay down too?" With a happy chitter, he rolled to the end of the bed allowing me to lay down. i kicked off my boots and layed over my covers staring at the ceiling, " I wonder who that stranger was in town, something felt weird about them." I was mostly talking to myself and saying my thoughts out loud, it's not like Ruddiger can respond to me but at least i have someone to talk to.

"Varian, dinner is ready!" Dad shouts from the dining room, " Don't eat it all without me!" I shout back, hurrying out of the lab. Settling into my seat i noticed dad had made my favorite, "What's the occasion, you only make my favorite food when something big is happening." He glanced at me, a small smile crossing his face. Dad grabs a small box from his pocket and hands it to me.

I opened it to reveal a silver pendant, "It was your mothers, she had told me she wanted you to have it on your seventeenth birthday, i thought giving it to you a week early wouldn't hurt." I held it up to examine it, an emblem sat in the middle of it; a snake sat in the middle surrounded by roses, wrapped around a sword. I ran my fingers over the symbol, "Did she ever tell you where she got it?" I looked up from the pendant and looked at my dad.

"No, it was one of the last things she asked me to do," dad looked on solemnly.

"She'd be so proud of the man you've become." He rested his hand on my shoulder slowly bringing me into a warm hug.

Tears threatened to fall from the corners of my eyes as i buried my face in his shoulder. "Alright now, let's get to bed. We need to be well rested if we want to be up early enough to talk with Bennett and Abigail about where your house will be built." We parted after he patted my back gently. I walked towards my lab and changed into a long night shirt. I blew out the lantern, letting my eyes adjust to the moon lit room and walked toward my bed. I crawled under the covers, rolling around a bit to get comfortable. Ruddiger curling up next to my pillow falling fast asleep.

"Night buddy." I gave him a gentle pat on the head and curled into a ball, letting sleep take over me.
