"Here we begin." A giant book plummeted from Elphacena's hand to the table. Ravin jumped at the crash it caused. Cedrick, who sat in front of the book, looked down at it. He raised his eyebrows and looked at the Sorceress. "You want me to read this?"

"All of it." She replied.

Cedrick studied the cover. "An Overview of the Basics?" Cedrick read as a question.

"Yes."

"But... I already know this."

"Not this book." Elphacena insisted.

"But I already know what's in this book."

Elphacena's placed her hands on her hips and glared. "Do you want to improve or not?"

"Of course I do." Cedrick turned to her, "But if I require a beginner course, why couldn't Jarbo prove me himself?"

"Because I doubt Jarbo can do what's in this book. Now read it." She rammed the book into Cedrick's chest.

"The whole thing?" Cedrick asked.

"Read it." Elphacena marched away.

Cedrick snarled and glowered at the book. Well, he'd enjoyed studying at home. This shouldn't be dissimilar.

Cedrick opened the book. The instant he did, a horde of dust was expelled. Cedrick reeled back, coughing. "Have you ever opened this?"

"Read it!" Elphacena shouted from the kitchen.

Cedrick gave her a dirty look. He wafted the dust off the first pages, and he began to study, clutching a pen as his eyes perused the page.

As he'd supposed, there was nothing new buried in the binding. Different terminologies to describe the concept. As you'd expect with a different author, but not to the extent of providing anything new. He did notice mention of the Merlin: A prophesied enchanter who would be the most powerful ever to live. That was the only unfamiliar information. Though the expression now made sense to him.

He kept glancing at Elphacena, wondering if he was being tested. Any moment she'd declare, 'That's enough.' And they'd start the real work, but it never happened.

Three days passed. Cedrick still hadn't finished the book. He read until his head buzzed, retired to bed, and read on. Midway through the third day -- wondering how long the book was -- Cedrick checked the last page. The book added up to three thousand. How did that primeval book contain such vast numbers? Cedrick sighed and went back to reading.

However, today was different than any other. Cedrick was starting to notice something odd. Generally, distractions weren't an issue. At home, nothing could have prevented him from studying. Now however, he was constantly distracted, watching the Sorceress go about her work.

Did she know this would happen? Was this a part of the training, learning to not be distracted by her? Then again, why was she distracting? Was she trying to be? Cedrick didn't think so. She was obviously attempting to be quiet and was out of the room as often as possible.

At last, after a week, Cedrick completed the book. Elphacena took the book. Then -- to Cedrick's bitter disappointment -- she brought out another book. She dropped it in front him.

It was smaller. As Cedrick looked at it, his brow furrowed. "What?" He looked at Elphacena. "You want me to read... this?"

"Yes." Elphacena nodded. "Why else did I give it to you? To use as firewood?"

"But... it's a girl book." Cedrick pointed out.

Elphacena smiled. "Well, it's a romance. Yes."
