Flashback
July 26,1951
I was done with my freshman year in high school. The time was 11:26 a.m. My boyfriend was going to pick me up in half an hour. We were going to have some ice cream on a hot sunny day. He was a greaser but so hot. He had long black hair slicked back and a black leather jacket that accented his bright green eyes. He also had the newest dark pair of levy's.
But my parents weren't up yet. Their cars were still parked in the drive way. How peculiar they always left for work together at 10. Maybe they took the day off? My dad was a door to door vacuum sales man and my mom worked as a front desk lady at a large company in the city.
My dad was a tall stern white man, he was a little darker than most. He had thick black square glasses and black slicked black hair. Everyday he wore a different suit to match his dark brown eyes. My mom had brown hair that was flat and shoulder length but curved at the bottom like the newest trend in the '50s. She always wore a skirt, a different colored blouse and a suit jacket with some heels. they were both great parents.
So I closed the curtain and walked up the creaky stairs. Their bedroom was at the end of the hall. The door was open ajar. They always had their door closed which was strange. I crept up slow for I didn't want to wake them if they took the day off. Reaching the door I pushed it open slowly so it wouldn't creak so much. but what I found was even more shocking.
The door was wide open. My knees felt weak I couldn't think fast enough what to do. I fell to the ground, but why did this have to happen to me? Is all I could think. Everything was spinning into a blur. My world had been rocked. How is a 14 year old supposed to take the murder of her parents?
After I regained my sanity I walked over to the telephone and dialed 911. I couldn't stomach going back into that room, and there was no way I would ever get the sight out of my head. So I went to go sit on the front porch. The police arrived and took a look around inside. Then the realization that I was now an orphan came to mind. I ran to my friends house and never looked back.
Frantically I knocked on the door. I was all sweaty and muddy from the long jog. She finally answered the door. She gave me this look as if I were mad. Trust me if she came up to my door looking like me right now I would have act the same way.
" Oh my god Jane are you alright?" she looked at me up and down.
I started to break down. " They're dead!" I said while weeping.
"Honey come on in let's talk.
She took me in the house. It smelt like fresh baked sugar cookies, it made it even more welcoming and inviting. We walked up the stairs and down the hall to where her room must have been. It was a small room but very pretty. She had soft pink walks and a deep rich purple comforter. The room popped out to grab you. She had collages of pictures on one wall alone. after taking in the room we sat on the bed.
"Honey, who's dead?" she finally had the nerve to ask.
"Mom and Dad," I replied.
"Oh my. How?"
"Murdered, I went into their room to see if they stayed home because their cars weren't gone. And I found them there in bed with blood all over, someone had ripped them apart. But I don't know how."
" Did they find the killer?"
"No, but I tell you when I do I'm going to make that bastard pay." I said filled with anger and agony.
My checks were red and my eyes were hot and filled with tears but they wouldn't come out. I never liked to cry. Every time i cried it made me feel weak and helpless.
I knew that I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my years an orphan. So I lived on the streets from house to house until I found my job at the police department. I wanted to be someone. I wanted to save people from phsyco paths. Unlike the justice I didn't get.
