somewhat of a trigger warning on this chapter, love you stay safe

The nights after that were the same. The torturous dreams, the burning feeling that overwhelmed Remington when he awoke, the terrifying feeling that overcame him. They grew all too familiar, the microcosm his mind created felt all too real.

Remington prayed that tonight he could sleep, he physically couldn't do another night of only getting one or two hours of restless sleep. He's been so tired the past two weeks, he just needs one night of sleep. It was eleven o'clock before Remington finally got the chance to go to bed, another long day of tour taking its toll on his body. He closed his eyes, minutes later finding himself in the distorted picture of his nightmares. Tonight, it was only the silent field, none of the ghosts attacking him or roaming around. There was no cliffs edge, but a calm lake side that the moon reflected off of.

Remington was startled when a hand was on his shoulder, the hand being attached to Daniel. "This is what you wanted to see, right?" Daniel asks, his voice soft and calming.

"I don't know," Remington muttered, unsure of what he was seeing at the moment. Why was Daniel here? Why is everything so calm?

"You didn't want to be scared, you wanted to feel safe. Do you feel safe?" Dan asks, the calming tone he was using taking a slight edge, almost like a warning. Remington stayed silent, unsure of what to say, or if he should say anything at all. They could only stare at one another, waiting for someone to say something. Daniel was the first to walk away, walking over to the water and staring out at the lake. Remington closed his eyes for only a second, but when he opened them again Daniel was gone, but so was the lake, being replaced with the sight Remington had been expecting.

"Daniel?" He shouted, looking around at the emptiness. "Daniel?" His voice was weak this time, a barely there rasp.

Remington jolted awake, his shaky legs almost imideatly taking him to Daniel's bunk to make sure he was alive. His rational brain would've told him that the man was fine, that he was perfectly alive, but any rational thoughts were nowhere to be found. He just peaked through the opening of the curtain, but he could see Daniel clearly alive. He was okay.

"Hey," Remington hears from behind him, the familiar voice belonging to Dan "Why are you awake?"

Remington didn't want to turn around and give away how terrible he looked, how red his face looked, the tear tracks that seem to appear more in the last few days than they have in years, the glassy eyes. Without turning around he mumbles "No reason, I just couldn't sleep."

Before he could return to the peace of his bed, Daniel intervenes again "Why couldn't you sleep?"

"It's nothing, just bad dreams." He states, internally shuddering at the reminder of them.

  "Okay... goodnight," Daniel says

   "Goodnight."
