Prologue
My heart was pounding, my whole body shaking and I was struggling to get air into my lungs. I sprinted through the trees, looking at the ground so as not to trip over a root or plant.
I should have been more careful and paid more attention to where I was going because I suddenly slammed into a tree. I felt the air leave my body and my vision blurred. The next thing I knew, I was laying on the ground and a young woman was tying me to a tree. I was too dazed to resist her and it wasn't long before my eyes closed again.
When I awoke, my capturer was sitting with her back to me but I couldn't tell if she was asleep or not. I wriggled my hands a bit so that I could reach my back pocket, then I pulled out my broken pocket knife. My head throbbed but I managed to position my hands in such a way that I could attempt to cut the rope. It was stronger than I expected but after about 20 minutes of slowly sawing away at the thick rope, I finally managed to free myself.
"Don't think you're going anywhere." said a hash voice from behind me.
I spun around with surprise. I had been too busy freeing myself and hadn't noticed her move behind the tree. I suddenly realised what she was, I glanced down at the long blade at the women's hip and my breath caught in my throat. The witch assassin stared at me with her emerald green eyes. She could have been pretty if it wasn't for the evil grin on her face.
