Chapter 1

I cursed myself for not being more observant. How did I not sense her? After all, I am an Angel. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, I'm a freak, a mutant, whatever you want to call me. I have special gifts or powers you could say. These 'powers' are very helpful in times like this but the witch must have used a spell or charm of some sort to conceal herself.

"what's your name girl?" Said the assassin.

"Monique" I said, failing to sound confident.

"Well, what was your business galloping through my forest? Are you on the run?" She smirked.

"I was... Ugh... late for something" I lied.

"Oh, and what would that something be?"

"uh, um, a club meeting..." I lied again, dam it, why am I so bad at lying?

The witch assassin sighed.

"Well I guess we have to do this the hard way if you're not going to cooperate."

She pulled out a flask of some bad smelling liquid and walked towards me.

I was about to start a kicking and screaming fit, when I suddenly realised I had cut myself free! I jumped up, ripping the remaining ropes away and sprinted for the trees. My legs were stiff from standing up for hours, but I kept going.

As I ran past the camp fire, I grabbed my bag and cloak. I didn't look back until I was in the trees, the witch was standing where I left her, smiling. Who is this freak? Why didn't she try to chase me? I turned back around and kept running, but after no more than about 10 paces, I suddenly slammed into some invisible force! What the? I got up and jogged forward again. SLAM!

Aghh, not again! I walked up and touched the barrier, it shimmered and stung my hands. I walked clockwise, my hand still out-stretched, and realised that I was surrounded by a forcefield of some kind. No wonder the assassin didn't try to catch me. I sunk down to the ground, I was trapped.

As you now know, I am an Angel, so you are probably wondering why I don't just fly away. Here's the story, I was actually running away from some scientists from The Institute of Enhanced living. They created my wings and wanted me back I guess. I had no intention of being in that place again, I spent most of my childhood there in a cage and have very bad memories of it. At one point, while running away, I had stopped for a nap, thinking the scientists were a long way behind. However, they caught up while I was asleep and tied my wings together so that I couldn't fly away again.

While I'm here, with no way to escape this forcefield, I should probably tell you more about who I am. So, my name is Monique Rose and I was a normal girl... until the scientists took a liking to me. I am 15 years old and I have brown hair and blue eyes. I am a pretty good runner but I preferred swimming before I got my wings, which makes being in water very uncomfortable. I am about 5 ft 4 and I guess you could say I'm a good weight for my height. I like to keep a diary, which is what you are reading now, and I am also very adventurous.
