Matt, Dad and I have been at Hal’s side since he collapsed. Dad made sure that we knew that Anne and the doctors in Charleston were doing all that they could for Hal. I just wished that I could do something to help my older brother. The feeling of helplessness crept up on me, which I didn’t like at all. I was so used to being in control, being the one who could save everyone. But I couldn’t save Hal from Karen. And it was tearing me apart inside.
But I knew that I couldn’t be weak, that I had to be strong for Matt, and even for Dad. Put on a brave face and push through. I was wondering, “Is this what Dad goes through?” Matt already had to deal with so much already, the loss of Mom; then me and Dad. I didn’t want for Matt to have to lose Hal too. Honestly the only person who has been with Matt since the beginning.
