Hal

When I wake up I’m not exactly sure what has happened. I know I’m in Charleston because of the room I’m in now. But as for this detail I really know nothing. Why am I in this room. I can feel something now resting on my neck. But the strangest part for me is that I can’t manage to feel the person on my chest or my legs. I couldn’t judge how tall this person is. I can’t tell if it’s Maggie or Matt or even Dad. I try to move my hand to touch the person to wake them up but my hand doesn’t obey my order to move. I try again and again but my arm won’t move. I try to speak but really I can’t but I manage to let out a little whimper.

The person startled and moved a little so I could see that it wasn’t either of the people I thought it was. I saw the green eyes and sandy hair first before he started to move off the bed. “Hal,” he said. I didn’t really know what to say to him. I didn’t really know if I could form words. All I could manage before was a whimper. “Hal” The boy said again and turned to go out the door. But I got my voice to say, “Ben,” but it came out quiet and weak. Ben turned from the door to me. Ben just looked at me for a minute then came over to me. “Somethings wrong.” I said when Ben was beside me. I didn’t know if he was about to freak out or stay calm. Ben just looked at me. Ben was getting the pieces together in his head. Ben said to me, “You can’t move Hal, can you?” I shook my head no, confirming what Ben was thinking that I was paralyzed. “I can’t move my hands, legs. I couldn’t feel you when you were lying on me, Ben.” Ben was stunned. Ben said to Hal, “I’m going to get Anne and Dad.” And with that Ben was gone and Hal was left alone again.
