The Cafe was not so packed on account of today's nice weather. I let out a soft sigh knowing I wouldn't get to enjoy it until my break.
"Excuse me," huffed a very impatient women.
I snapped out of my thoughts and put on the fakest smile I could muster, "I'm sorry how can I help you?"
She tapped her foot impatiently, "Well if you'd actually like to listen now. I want a Decaf-Coffee with light cream."
I felt my eyebrow twitch with irritation however this was not the first time a customer has been rude, so like any waitress would do I wrote down the order with a smile, "Write away ma'am." Turning to head back to the kitchen I made it a point to walk a little slower than normal, two can play a game of rudeness. As I entered the back room to make the order one of my close co-workers, Sun Mi, arrived as well.
"Nice handling the hag back there." she chuckled.
I cracked a smile, "Like the motto says 'a waitress is always polite', I can't afford to let some witch ruin my job."
Sun Mi covered her mouth to hold her laugh, "Well be careful she doesn't curse you now."
I let out a breathy laugh finishing the order, "Yeah I'll try." The minute I walked out the back the mask of Policy was spread across my face as I greeted new customers and headed to the table. "Here's your order." I set the cup down and took the tray about to go over to a new customer.
Before I could even take a step I here the customer behind me, "Yahh! Is this some kind of joke. I said light cream but i don't taste any of it."
I suppressed the urge to punch this ignant customer in the face so I decided it's better if I just continue doing my job.
As I turned around to apologize was hit with the scorching cup of coffee that the customer had just thrown on me. I hissed in pain while she just quickly tried to change what happened.
"An now you've spilled yhe coffee! What kind of a waitress are you?"
I had long since forgotten the exsistence of anyone as I gripped my white bloused soaked in hot coffee making the material transparent revealing my bra.
It wasn't until I was being ked away my Sun mi that I had snapped out of my trance. She held her plate holder over my upper body to protect my modesty as much as she could.
The manager waked passed us to the lady kindly asking her to leave. To which she had a outburst about how she'd never comeback again. That was perfectly fine with me.Now in the back room Sun mi had instructed me to change into a off work shirt before coming back. I went to the locker room after a soft nod and went to change.
Once my shirt was off a large red mark from my diaphragm to my navel was displayed. I winced knowing it would be painful in the morning. With great difficulty I managed to put the new shirt on, thankful for it's large size on me. I walked out the locker room handing Sun Mi my shirt which she tossed into the already open washing machine. Once done she turned her attention back to me, "are you okay Nauen?"
It was a question I had been trying to avoid all week. First my land-lord hounded me for late rent again, then I got a ticket for speeding to work ultimately still arrving late and now this. Each time I had avoided causing confrontation in front of Sun Mi because I knew how much she cared for me. She was like a big older sister who loved her doesaeng very much. The thought of giving her more worry made me want to keep quiet about my problems. Now her I was in the back room staring at the one person who could break me down.
When she pulled me into a hug it hadn't dawned on me that I had started crying. Not until I felt the wet mark I had cause begin go grow. She stroked my head tenderly as she shushed me, like a mother would a crying baby.
I clung to her as my stress seemed to flow out of me through pulls of water from my eyes.We stayed like this for a minute before I finally calmed down, now reduced to quiet sniffles. She grabbed a paper towel and began dabbing under my eyes.
"Aigoo," she cooed, "my sweet baby is ruining her make up. Who is it that made this little girl sad hmm."
I couldn't help the sad smile that spread across my face. She always knew how to make me feel better. "It's every eonni." I pouted playfully, tears fully dried.
She gave a wicked laugh patting my head, "then on our next off day we will head to our base and devise our battle strategy."
I gave a cackle in return nodding in agreement.
Not long after the manager appeared for once actually worried asking if my wounds were okay. Even when I reassured her I was fine she gave me a skeptical look before telling me I could fet of a hour earlier than normal to get it treated just in case. I thanked her and apologised for all the commotion before she left to attend people at the register. I looked at my watch and noticed that I wouldn't be off for another 2 hours. Well at least it wasn't 3.
Sun Mi patted my shoulder before heading out to get to work. I was reminded again how much I truly was blessed to have a person like her working beside me.
Grabbing a new apron, I joined her at the register, refusing to let this day go completely to waste.
It's our mentality that allows us to have good and bad days. I wasn't gonna let this incident ruin a good days pay if I had any say in this. I gave a soft clear of my throat before adressing the next customer.
"Hi, what can I get you?"
