We'd arrived at the station an hour early, Sammy's doing of course.
"You want me to run into a wall? Sammy if you're going to try and prank me at least make it believable."
"I'm telling the truth, I read about it!"
"You read too much"
"If Dad was here he'd tell you the same thing." I got a lump in my throat. I told Sammy John couldn't come because of work; in reality, he just couldn't be bothered. I've always been the disappointment in the family, the failure. Sammy has a promising future, but not me, he tells me I'll end up in Azkaban... and he's probably right.
"Well... okay." I say, looking at my younger brother. "But if you're lying you'll be for it." I tighten my grip on the trolley of cases, close my eyes and brace myself,
"1... 2... 3!"Steam. That's the first thing I noticed. It filled my lungs and warmed my heart. For me, it marked the beginning of a new life. A life where I don't flinch every time someone raises their voice or slams a door; a life where I don't have to carry the weight of Johns disappointment.
"Dean?" I heard a small voice from behind me, "Dean, are you asleep? Why are you stood with your eyes closed?"
"I'm taking it all in." I replied. I started to get worried as I hadn't heard Sammy in a while, I didn't want him to have ran off looking for that Potter kid.I opened my eyes and my mouth fell agape in awe. People in vibrant coloured robes and hats jostled each other on the platform. Parents waved their kids goodbye as friends reunited and boarded the great Hogwarts Express. She was beautiful, beams of sunlight bounced off of her glimmering scarlet walls. The steam pouring from her chimney almost distracted me from my worry. Almost. I looked in front of me, hoping to see a chestnut mop of hair in amongst the crowd. I looked to my right, to my left, and finally behind me. And there he was, stood with his eyes closed and a smile on his face.
"Watcha doing Sammy?"
"Taking it in, just like you Dean." He said, opening his eyes to look at me. My eyes glossed over with tears, I couldn't bare to leave him. I raised that kid, me and Bobby, not John. Bobby can't be there for him everyday and I certainly can't, so... who? John? He may be a good auror, but he's a shit parent. The best I can do is write him everyday and hope he can survive until the holidays. Sammy looked up at me and we locked eyes,
"Dean... what's wrong? Are you okay?"
"I'm just gonna miss you. Take care Sammy."
"Goodbye Dean." Sam said as a tear rolled down his cheek.
"Don't go getting soppy on me now Sammy."
"Jerk."
"Bitch." We hugged and I boarded the train.
