"Ash?" Rakkon's voice is near my ear, but I shake my head and bury it into the side of the pillow. My muscles are weak and I don't feel well, hearing the autumn wind howl outside the bedroom window.
Rakkon kisses my temple before I feel the bed shift on his side. I pull the covers closer to me, curling up in a ball as I don't even want to open my eyes this morning...though I can hear the shower running now in the bathroom. He calls to me from the open doorway and says, "Another pack's alpha has requested an audience with me..." his voice trails off before he says, "...I want you by my side."
One of my hands rubs my forehead, shaking it again as I murmur, "Rakkon..."
My alpha doesn't hear this as he's already in the shower and my voice is so soft. When I attempt to mind link to him, I feel my body heating slightly and I avoid it altogether.
It's a bit before I'm woken again, Rakkon kneeling down next to the bed as his fingers rub through my hair. My eyelids flutter open and he asks me, "Ash, what's the matter?"
"I..." my voice is soft, but I swallow hard and say, "...I think I'm going into heat...but I've not felt weak like this before."
Rakkon frowns at my response and his eyes immediately darken with the connection to someone in the pack he's mind-linking with. His voice is even and calm as he tells me, "Narkissa will be here in just a bit to watch over you while I'm gone for the afternoon."
Narkis' twin and pack doctor...Narkissa is sweet and kind, her demeanor gentle.
Watching Rakkon as he lifts away from me after kissing my forehead, I see him draw a minuscule vial from a pouch above the bookcase. He does this every morning...but I'm so out of it this morning I finally ask him, "What's that?"
Rakkon replaces the vial and nears me before replying softly, "Assurance."
I don't understand what he means and it's probably due to the fact my muscles are grappling with slight pain onsetting minutes after Rakkon leaves. I'm met with the door opening again and hearing Narkissa's sweet voice calling, "Luna Ashling?"
"Hm?" I ask, finding myself curling up into even a tighter ball.
Hearing the door close and her footfalls near, she sets down two small bags on the bedside table. Her eyes quickly analyze me before she reaches out and touches my upper arm. Pain radiates through me as I've never felt like this during heat, adding to the already overwhelming knots forming in my abdomen.
"Hmm," Narkissa lifts her touch away and furrows her brows. She stares at me hard before saying, "You're having receptive nerve pain...wait, did Alpha Rakkon's touch affect you similarly?"
I shake my head and hold my abdomen with my arms now, my forehead already perspiring.
"Shoot," Narkissa releases a sigh and then begins to move to her bags.
She's mutter to herself when I ask her, "W-Wha-t's w-wro-ng?"
Narkissa glances up after she takes a few vials from her bag and says, "Oh, it's just an old wives' tale I heard once before from an oracle that visited with us before," she pauses a moment as she removes a plug-in tea kettle on Rakkon's desk, "though I never thought it was nothing more than that."
