Diccan became my guardian that day.
As much as I love my son carrying for me the way he does, he has other obligations, taking on the role of pack alpha at the young age of eighteen. Diccan spoke with Keir when he'd come looking for me, fearing for the absolute worse that I'd gone to find a way to join Rakkon. My son still loves and cares for me very much, the small timeframes he does have, he finds me and we don't stop talking until the sun goes down.
Three years later, Keir won't allow anyone to recognize his birthday. He's related the two as a bad connotation and decides to ignore it altogether.
"Good Morning," I feel the tip of Diccan's nose brush behind my ear.
Sitting at the edge of the bed, Diccan kneels behind me, his arms wrapping around my shoulders. He holds me, giving me security I need as I whisper, "Good Morning."
"Is there anything you'd like to do today?" Diccan asks me, brushing his thumbs against my shoulders.
My gaze is set on the window, the snow falling gently outside, breathing out slowly as I tell him my request, "I want to run until I can't run anymore."
"Then let's run," Diccan places a gentle kiss behind my ear, releasing me from his embrace.
I glance to him as he shifts off the bed, heading to the dresser and pulling out shorts. Slowly, I get to my feet, walking to my dresser and taking from it shorts and shirt. We change into our clothes, knowing they won't be on for very long. Diccan's hand is on my lower back, guiding me into the hall while he closes the door behind him.
We walk down to the second level, passing my son's office. They're up early, because Alpha Victor is here and I don't know when he arrived. I catch him say, "Alpha Carter passed away."
The poor dear...
I can't help but feel for his daughter, both her parents now gone.
Diccan and I make our way onto the main level, walking back to the mudroom. Releasing a small breath of air before changing back down out of my clothes, allowing for my wolf to take over...I enjoy relinquishing control to her. Diccan's gray wolf soon stands alongside her, breathing in her scent before they bound out into the snow.
His wolf is quick to rush around her, leaping once over her before heading off to the east. She's right behind him, her paws making prints in the soft snow. They run, passing all recognizable landmarks, soon finding themselves near Imperial Stars territory. Diccan's wolf runs her toward the set of fallen logs, my wolf breathing a little hard. She sits back on her haunches, lifting her muzzle to the cloudy sky.
Diccan's wolf and mine are quick to capture snowflakes. A moment later, my wolf lowers herself to the snow, her rump in the air while wagging her tail. A low bark sounds from Diccan's wolf before he accepts the playfulness she exudes. Their game of tag is something of a spectacle, drawing attention from a few wolves performing rounds from the Imperial Stars Pack.
Our scent is easily recognizable, their wolves finding it humorous when my wolf playfully leaps over and bops one of them on the nose with her paw. A light bark leaves its muzzle before there are more wolves intermingling in the game of tag. They are respectful, as when the time comes for them to disembark, their foreheads each press to mine before they leave this part of their territory. Diccan's wolf and I only stay for a little while longer, walking back toward the pack lodge.
We take our time, stopping once more at the frozen lake. Sadness rises up within my wolf each time we come to this place, but it's something that can't be helped. As Keir had told me...
