"I can't!" Keir argues with Rakkon as I'm lying on the bed with my back turned to the door, the two of them entering the room. A hand clutches around my heart while tears beading off my cheek and onto the pillow.

"Son-"

"I can't keep listening to the way they talk about mamma!" Keir snaps at Rakkon.

Whore?

Slut?

This is only scratching the mere surface of everything he's overheard this evening.

The door closes and Rakkon releases a sigh stating, "I know. Believe me, I know."

"Help her!" Keir yells at his father.

There's a knock I hear from the other side of the bedroom door. It opens and Rakkon tells Keir, "I need to speak with your mother. Alpha Victor will keep watch over you for the time being."

Keir grumbles something beneath his breath while Alpha Victor chuckles and says, "Come now Keir, let's go watch a movie."

The silence only returns once the door closes shut, hearing the lock slide into place. A few moments later, the bed dips down behind me, my eyelids fluttering shut at Rakkon's touch. His hand rests on my shoulder before trailing down my upper arm, entwining his fingers with mine before he whispers, "I know you're hurting. Please tell me what's bothering you."

I surpass a sob, staring at the window across from me while remaining on my side. The moon shines brightly into the room, but I don't feel a sense of security I should from it. It feels like my heart has been wrenched out...

...for ignorance is bliss, yet the truth sets us free.

"Alpha Carlin and Luna Josette Callender," their names roll off my tongue and I keep from crying hard all over again.

"Hm?" Rakkon asks me, and I slowly shift up to sitting beside him. His eyes meet with mine and they immediately soften from the outer appearance he's had to display since we arrived.

Rakkon's hands hold mine as I release a small breath of air before telling him, "You were right...about the Death Stalkers Pack...how something was off about their lineage."

"Ash?" He has this questioning look, one I know too well.

"I'm their lineage," my chest tightens and I feel his hands squeeze mine. Rakkon studies me as I continue to tell him what Diccan had revealed to me, "My parents were once the Alpha and Luna of the Death Stalkers Pack...but that wasn't the original pack name. Alpha Carlin and Luna Josette Callender led the Moon Ridge Pack...before I was brought into this world and their beta, Alpha Zenon now; he killed them and all who wouldn't bend to his ideology."

Rakkon tenses when I tell him the original pack name, furrowing his brows with confusion as he tells me, "I remember the Moon Ridge Pack from my father before me...everyone thought they'd been killed by rogues as their pack lodge was also burned to the ground when neighboring packs came to investigate," he pauses a moment as tears continue to slide down my cheeks, "they were good wolves..."

"They were killed for bringing weakness into the line of succession," it pains my heart, that I was the reason for their deaths. It's always been there...but now that I know who they were...

...everything makes sense as to why I'm mated to my Alpha...my Rakkon.

"Unacceptable, unspeakable treason..." his words hold a dangerous tone, my heart skipping a beat as he asks me, "Who told you this?"

Inhaling sharply, I shake my head because I don't want Diccan to be blamed for any of this.

"Ash," his voice rises slightly.
