“BILLY BOB, BOB BILLY!”
I jumped up from my desk chair and stuck my head out my door, “Jason shut up!”
“Bridgette! Don’t yell at your brother!” my mother said opening the front door and walking in just in time to hear me shout.
If only she knew what Jason was doing the whole time she and dad were gone. I quickly closed the lid of my laptop and ran out the hallway.
Mom was sitting on the couch watching the news in the living room and Jace was playing with his leggos on the floor in front of her.
I sat down next to her and was about to complain when Dad came in with the mail in his hands.
“Looky here” he said after quickly looking through the small stack. He showed us a pretty blue envelope with fancy designs on it.
Mom held her hand out for it, “Who’s it from?”
Dad shrugged as he handed it to her and sat down next to me.
I forgot about complaining and looked at it curiously, “Look it has 3 stamps”
Mom opened the envelope and took out a card with the same fancy design that was on the envelope.
“To the Cavalier Family” mom read out loud, “We would like to invite you to the wedding of Justin Zacharias Sahyounie and Kristin Elena Anderson this 29th of June at Wesley Uniting Church. Please call to RSVP by June 10th and we hope you can make it. Love always from Justin and Kristin. John this is from your cousin”
“Yes I know dear. So should we attend?”
“Honey, this is in Australia.” Mom said stuffing the card back in the envelope and handing it back to dad.
“I can take some time off from work and I’m sure you can too. I’m Justin’s god father Caroline”
“Please mom! I’ve never been to Australia and we have nothing planned for the summer anyway”
“Please mommy?” Jason also asked, looking up from his leggo’s with puppy dog eyes.
‘Way to go lil man!’ I cheered in my head. I know mom can’t say no to those puppy dog eyes.
“But” Mom started to say but Dad cut her off.
“We can spend our anniversary where we first met Carl’s” dad said sweetly smiling at her with loving eyes and I awed in my head.
We all looked at mom like we were starving and she was holding a plate full of food.
“Oh alright!” she sighed throwing her hands up in the air in exasperation, but she had a teeny smile on her face.
“Yes!” I shouted and I grabbed Jason and we danced around the living room while mom and dad cuddled on the sofa.
Rebekah, my older sister, was at work so I texted her straight away about our summer plans.
This is so perfect. School ends this Friday, then finally summer break. I texted all my girlfriends and we all agreed to meet up at The Corner after school on Monday since we all had different lunch times and we could barely talk to each other during class.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
‘The Corner’ was this pizza place at the corner of the street just 2 blocks away from school. Our usual table was at the corner of the place, a table next to the window so it’s not really in the back.
We all drove there together but in our own cars (make sense?) We parked and I got out of my snow white Mustang.
“Babe you’re so lucky” Nina said as we walked inside and took our usual corner table. It was a ‘sit yourself’ place.
