Kenzie's POV

    "Hair straight or curled?"

"Straight, but can you do a cool braid at the top?"

"Definitely, if you bring me back some breadsticks." I laugh at my older sister's bargain. Brandon and I were going on a date downtown to this pasta place I've never heard of before.

"Sure, but Brandon is going to think I'm crazy sticking bread in my purse." Maddie rolls her eyes at me in my mirror.

"Who cares, Brandon is crazy in his own ways too." She started tugging my hair in a twisted braid.

"What do you mean by that exactly?" I questioned. I wasn't meaning to be snarky, I was just wondering. She considered her answer.

"He's very.... I don't know..... weird. It's like he doesn't want you to talk or even look at any other guy, but doesn't have a problem talking to other girls."

"He's just very protective. I trust him." I respond, sure of my answer. Brandon would never hurt me, he cares to much about me.

"Ok, if you trust him so do I. I just don't want you getting hurt." Maddie finished off my braid and tied it off. It was a half up- half down kinda braid. "Jack is picking me up to go bowling in a second, so I won't see you till like 10 or something. Call me if you need something ok?"

I nodded, "I'll make sure to." Maddie gave me a quick hug and ran down the stairs to greet her boyfriend Jack who had just texted saying he was outside. I fixed my makeup in my vanity, and went to go pick out an outfit. Maddie won't mind if I take a look through her closet.

"Kenzie you look great, I really like what you did with your hair." Brandon said as he parked in the parking lot.

I chuckled and said, "Maddie did it, I swear my brain goes into low power mode when I try to do my hair." Brandon laughed as he took the key out of the engine.

"I think you're really going to like this place." We both got out of the car and walked into the restaurant.

10 minutes later we were seated and had our drinks and breadsticks with butter on our table. "Don't judge me right now, Maddie love these." I say as I take a napkin and rap up some bread.

"Ew, those are gross." Brandon says, sipping his Diet Coke. I look up at him in utter confusion. How can someone not like these?!? Well unless you are gluten-free which is understandable. But Brandon isn't. This is a problem.

"What are you talking about? These are delicious." I say, taking a bite out of one.

"Whatever, garlic bread for the win here." Isn't that the same thing, but with garlic?!? Brandon confuses me a lot. I was about to voice my thoughts more, but then two teenagers walked through the front door. I drop my bread stick on the table. "Uhh Kenz?? Are you ok?" Brandon says questionably, looking concerned.

"Um yeah! Everything's cool. Just spaced out a bit." In reality, everything was NOT cool. Johnny Orlando, the guy I used to tell all my secrets to, is hanging out with my enemy, Nadia Turner. This is code red. Even if I don't hang around John anymore I don't want him getting sucked into her toxic-ness.

"Ok.....what are you going to order?"

————

"She will totally ditch you if you show up in that."

"Lauren I don't know what you mean, I look fine." She rolled her eyes at me, giving me a look of pity.

"Really Johnny? You can't wear a T-shirt on a first date. Unacceptable." She started to rummage through my closet. I sat down in my desk chair. She pulled out a blue button down. "Now this is good. Also do that pulled to the side hair look. It makes you seem less emo."

"Thank you?" I didn't know if that was a compliment or an insult. She nodded and pushed the shirt into my hands.

"Now go and get ready, it's almost time for you to pick her up." I sighed and walked into the bathroom, and put on the shirt. As I was applying gel to my bangs, I looked at myself in the mirror. Not just glanced, I really looked, hard. I saw a boy dressing up for a date he didn't really want to go on. But he also saw a boy who was desperate for someone to actually pay attention to him for once. Not just her stupid boyfriend who was obviously a jerk but she didn't see it. Definitely not talking about anyone specifically here.
