Upon landing at OR Tambo another set of 7ft guards I didn't know approached Anele and I, and escorted us to a G-wagen which was parked out front at the departure doors. It was nearly 1950 Thursday night and I was in need of a good soak and undisturbed sleep. I'd been rehearsing my speech throughout the day and in first class on the plane and i knew every intonation by heart. Lucky enough Anele could tell I was tired and so he does up the entire process for clearing us out. As we spend off from the airport amid reporters crowded around us who wanted an in to why so many dignitaries in town, I noticed there was an identical car behind us which harbored the rest of my designated security team. I sunk into the seat and released a breath I had been holding since we landed.
"Are you hungry miss? We could get some food on our way. But then you could always get room service." Anele asked politely from his shotgun seat in the front. He was driving.
"No I'm good." I swallowed something heavy that was logged in my throat. "But you guys can pull over if you want something."
"No but thank you ma'am." He quipped and maintained his eyes on the road. Upon entering the interstate we were trapped in traffic and I couldn't help but unleash my frustration.
"Are you kidding me?" I was clearly in shock because it was nearly 2000 but then again Johannesburg is a 24hr working space.
"Not to worry Miss, we've got ariel patrol and they'll let us know of a quicker route in no time."
"fine." I grunted and earned a smile from Anele who had dealt with my uptight nature all his life. I pulled up my phone and checked for a signal, sighing when I got a couple of bars.

BadBih👅💦: tell me you've gotten back your senses and are ditching this lame ass party to come back to the cape and throw this party with me😒

I laughed at her bossiness when I read Jessi's message which had probably come in while I was in transit.

LiraLove🌼🌼: 😂😂girl it's not that simple. I wish I was there already I mean 🙄🙄 traffic...

BadBih👅💦: oh yeah evenings are the worst in Joburg 🙄🙄

LiraLove🌼🌼: yet you didn't think to warn a nigga huh😒

BadBih👅💦: how was I to know your dumbass's boarding time🤦🏾‍♀️I ain't psychic

LiraLove🌼🌼: say hi to Keon for me😏

BadBih👅💦: his punk ass' not invited🙄he gets handsy

LiraLove🌼🌼: since when is handsy a problem for you🙉

BadBih👅💦: bye Lira🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

I laughed at her discomfort toward the issue. It wasn't too hard to see there was something going on between them and I couldn't help but wonder what it was. I scrolled through my other chats and paused to see if Chase had gotten over our squabb and texted me yet. He hadn't.
My heart lurched in my throat and I decided I wouldn't be preoccupied by thoughts of his unfairness any longer. I have to sleep tonight or else I won't look my best tomorrow.
"Affirmative. Miss we'll be backing out of this highway and taking a detour with the R27." The other guard who was driving said to me calmly and he reversed the car.
I was too tired to ask for more information and I could only hope we were going somewhere with a large bathtub. I must've drifted off or fallen asleep soon because an hour later we'd made it to Sandton and I was being escorted out of the car and checking into an already booked presidential suite in the Michaelangelo Hotel. The guards tooky bags up to the penthouse floor where I was to be sleeping during my stay here for the delegation. After searching for hugs and security breaches I was left alone to my own thoughts and tiredness.
I checked my phone and grew more tired at realising it was 2200hrs. I fell flat on my back on the king-size king bed and I let the pillows and mattress engulfed me in their superior comfort. I could never get used this life of vanity but I had to admit it boasted a lot of perks. There was no use in checking my phone for messages and I knew I wouldn't be able to hold anything down in my stomach if I tried to eat. I lay there staring at the ceiling and wondering if I'll ever get out of this labyrinth before the cold darkness stole my consciousness away and enveloped me in it's still quiet for the night.
I woke up in a sweat at 0415 and sat bolt upright in the middle of my bed before blinking my clouded eyes a few times to deliberate where I was. I suddenly remembered I was in a foreign place and my body, betrayed by the unsuited change knew it had been tricked and thus saved itself from the solitude of a sleep filled night.
Great.
I crawled off the bed I had lay on in my travel clothes and made my way over to the bathroom where a complimentary toothbrush lay dormant waiting for my arrival. I brushed my teeth and refrained from checking my reflection in this dark room. When I was done I washed my face and dried it on my way back to my still room. Fortunately for me, the guards had unpacked everything for me from my bags and arranged it neatly in my closet despite my incessant decline. Apparently it was a security process.
I went to one of my drawers to pulled out my satin shorts and top before I slipped under the plush bedding and settled amidst the warmth of my hotel satin sheets. I was determined to feel everything so deeply such that I would never denounce the effect this luxury had on my skin. I drifted off to the world of the half-dead on thoughts of soft feelings and fear's decay.
At 1336 I turned over on my floater in the hotel roof pool, feeling the sun lick the skin on my backside in pure admiration like it had my front. I had woken up at 1100 and headed straight for the pool feeling the need to submerge myself it therapeutic habits which would help soften the blows of anxiety I was feeling upon preparation for the night.
