It is currently 10:43pm on a quiet Friday night in Midvale children's hospital. Most of the nurses are on their break because of it being so quiet as the children that are in the hospital are asleep and go and check on them every 15 minutes to make sure they are ok. It was so quiet until the clock struck 10:45pm and it all went to chaos after that.....
Four paramedics came bursting through the doors from the ambulance area and were pushing a gurney with a very small, fragile looking child, in fact the body looked too small to be a child, she only looked like a toddler even smaller than that. Everyone's attention in the hospital went towards them running towards the first possible room to get into. Dr Danvers was lucky to be nearby as she said she will take charge of the situation.
"What are we dealing with?" Dr Danvers asked one of the paramedics.
"Neighbours said her name is Kara, she's two years old, and has just been rescued from a catastrophic house fire that has unfortunately killed both her parents as they were pronounced dead at the scene" The paramedic said.
"How can such a young girl go through so much, that some people don't even go through their entire life" Dr Danvers said looking down at the toddler with a breathing mask on due to the exposure of too much smoke from the fire in her tiny lungs.
"When we found her she was having difficulty breathing, so we gave her the oxygen mask to help her, as she only has tiny lungs" One of the paramedics said.
Dr Danvers and a few other doctors, carefully put Kara on one of the hospital beds so that it will be more comfortable for her. She had golden blonde hair with small curles throughout her hair that was messy from the incident that has occurred.
Kara started to stir out of her sleep and began coughing aggressively, which immediately got Dr Danvers attention. So she sat Kara up so it was better for her to cough and help with her breathing. She started rubbing her small back encouraging her to cough allowing all the smoke to get out of her lungs. Kara began to start sobbing as she didn't know where she was and tears began to roll down her tiny face.
"Mommy, mommy, daddy, daddy" the young toddler kept repeating. How was you supposed to explain to a two year old that she was never going to see her parents again.
"Hey baby girl your okay, your in a hospital, and we're going to take care of you I promise" Dr Danvers said getting the toddlers attention. Her eyes were bright blue from her teary eyes. "Why don't you get some sleep and I'll explain everything to you in the morning" Dr Danvers said even though Kara wouldn't understand a word she said because she's only 2 years old, but she understood the word sleep, so she nodded. Dr Danvers helped her lay back down and pulled up a pink blanket to keep her warm from the cold air. Dr Danvers stayed with her until she definitely knew she was asleep.
"Goodnight Kara, I'll see you first thing in the morning" Dr Danvers said turning off the light in her room and turning on the night light for her.
Back at the Danvers home.
"Hey Eliza, how come you're home so late" Jeremiah said from the sofa.
"We had an emergency with a house fire from downtown where there was a two year old girl in it, she lost both her parents and is all alone" Eliza said looking down, she felt so sorry for the little girl going through so much.
"Yeah I heard about that it was on the news, I can't believe it poor kid" Jeremiah said.
"Today has been tirering, I'm going to go to bed" Eliza said letting out a yawn.
"Yeah we better get to bed it's really late and you've got to be up early as your on the early shift" Jeremiah said as they both walked up the stairs. Eliza walked down the hall before going into her room to check on her sleeping daughter, and watching her sleeping before going back into her room, and laying awake for ages thinking about Kara's future and how it's going to effect her so much, she finally was able to go to sleep knowing she'll see her in the morning.
