Alex and Kara were playing dollies and during that time a nurse had been in to give Kara her breakfast and milk for in her bottle she has for when she eats. The nurse had even brought some extra breakfast for Alex in case she got hungry.
Whilst they were playing with dolls there was a knock on the door which brought both their attention to it. Alex looked over to Kara who had burried her head under her blanket showing she was afraid of it.
"Hey baby girl nobody is going to hurt I won't let anyone hurt you ever" Alex said her speech and Kara pulled the blanket back down so her face was now showing.
Alex got up off Kara's hospital bed and walked over to the door and opened it. Behind the door was a police officer holding a small box.
"Hello my name is Officer Sawyer and I came here to give a very special little girl this box" Officer Sawer said looking towards Kara. She came in the room and placed the box in front of Kara for her to open it in her own time.
"Unfortunately this was the only thing that was found from the wreckage of the fire" Officer Saywer said with sadness in her voice.
"Thank you" Alex said walking Officer Sawyer back to the door.
"Have a nice day Miss" Officer Sawyer said before leaving.
"You too and thanks again" Alex said.
"No problem" Officer Sawyer said.
When Alex could no longer see the officer she shut the door and turned around to see Kara staring blankly at the box.
"Do you want to open it now" Alex asked not wanting to scare or rush her with opening it. Kara nodded her slowly picking up the box and trying to open it. However her tiny fingers were to small to open the box.
"Do you want some help" Alex asked with a soft voice.
"Yes pwease Alex" Kara said. Alex watched Kara in awe at her trying to pronounce some words but she was still to little to say everything right.
Alex opened the box and gave it straight back to Kara to see what was inside the box.
Kara pulled out a beautiful necklace and held it in the palm of her tiny hand and started to have watery eyes daring to pour out.
"Mommy" Kara blurted out with now tears pouring out of her eyes and sobbing. She brought the necklace to her face and was now fully sobbing. Alex almost cried too she hated seeing Kara like this someone like her didn't deserve this at such a young age that nobody should go through.
"Hey hey hey I got you I got you shhh you gonna be okay I promice you" Alex said softly picking Kara up and holding her close to her chest and swaying Kara to help calm her down. Alex told soothing words to help calm her down and rubbing her back to give her more comfort.
It must have been about half an hour before Alex realised that Kara had finally calmed down. Kara had fallen asleep in Alex's arms and was gripping onto her top indicating she didn't want to let go anytime soon. Instead Alex sat down in a comfortable chair so it wouldn't get too uncomfortable. Alex stayed in that position for a long time taking deep thoughts about Kara and how she had bonded with her like sisters would.
Alex didn't know how long she had been having these thoughts but it was a long time. She started daydreaming about family outings with her mom and dad along with Kara going to a beach on a holiday, swimming in the sea and building sandcastles. She thought about how Kara would be an amazing baby sister for her as she had always wanted another sister but she knew her mother couldn't have anymore children. She even knew her mother wanted another daughter too and she had heard her mother discussing about Kara with her dad a few nights ago but couldn't hear what they were actually saying.
Alex was taken out of her thoughts and daydreaming by the door opening revealing her mom behind it.
Eliza looked at the two girls in awe watching as the young toddler slept on her daughters lap on the chair next to her bed.
"Has she been crying" Eliza said looking at Kara's face as there were dried tears and loose bits of her hair that were now stuck to her face because of the tears.
"Yeah a police officer came in earlier and gave Kara a box saying it was all that they could find from the wreckage of her home" Alex said looking at the open box that had been left on the bed.
"And what was I'm the box" Eliza questioned wondering what could have been in there to make Kara cry so much.
"There was a necklace in there and when Kara took it out the box she said 'mommy" straight away" Alex explained.
"It must have been her mom's necklace and she must have worn it a lot for Kara to have recognised it straight away" Eliza exclaimed.
"Yeah that explains why she won't let go of it" Alex says gesturing to the necklace still in Kara's tiny hands.
"Mom can I be completely honest with you" Alex asked getting her mom's attention.
"Yeah of course" Eliza answered sitting on the edge of the bed facing Alex.
"If you could" Alex started scratching her head thinking about to say it, "would you think of adopting her?".
Eliza sat down on the end of the bed, "I have thought about it and I've spoken to your father about it too" Eliza said.
"And what did you guys say" Alex wondered hoping for the right answer.
"Well we said we will have to speak to the adoption agency but as far as I know we'll be more than happy to adopt her" Eliza said waiting for Alex's reaction.
"YEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!" Alex said a little to loud. Alex checked to see if she had woken Kara up but she hadn't.
Alex thought to herself, she was finally going to have a little sister.
