The night was chilly. Goosebumps ran up Yasmine's arms. She pulled her cardigan around her tight. The bench she was sitting on was even colder, making her butt frozen.
"So, you come here often?" She finally decided to speak up.
Aaron, who was seated uncomfortabley a few feet away from her, shifted awkwardly. "Uh, yeah. I moved back here a couple of days ago."
"Oh, I see. Fancy meeting you here." Yasmine said, looking into the distance at the shining lake, under the beautiful moonlight.
"Yeah, fancy. I live in the apartment around the block. I decided to go on a walk because of the cool breeze," Aaron paused for while, his eyebrows furrowing, "By the way, why were you crying?"
Oh shizzles, she had been caught. She had been forgetting about that, but it all came back. Yasmine had a tumor, in her brain. She fought back tears, not wanting Aaron to know about any of this. Should she tell him? Would he even really care?
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." Aaron was the same kind guy he was back then.
"Um, sorry. Changing the subject, why'd you move back?" Yasmine said, trying to get away from the topic of her crying as soon as possible.
A cool breeze swept across the park. Yasmine's chocolate-colored hair blew violently, causing her to pull them back against her hair. Aaron stared at her intently, at her beauty. "I'm engaged."
Yasmine's head snapped his way. "What?" She sounded hurt at first, but quickly changed her tone to surprise instead of dismay.
"Yeah, its true. I met this girl named Lily at a book store around here. I couldn't find this book in my town, so I came to this one. We shared a lot of common interests, and we starting hanging out together. Then, we dated, and a couple of weeks earlier, I popped the question."
Yasmine stared at Aaron with a blank face. She didn't know how to react to this. Aaron was looking at the ground like it was the most important thing to be looking at right now. Yasmine took in a long breath, processing it all in her mind. Aaron is getting married, the man she loved is getting married. And he'll be living happily while she stays in her death bed, getting treatments that won't last long.
She felt like a basketball was in her throat. And it hurt too. Hot tears began to form in her eyes, but she took all the strength she had to push them back. She definetely didn't want him to see her crying now.
After a long pause of awkward silence, Yasmine finally quietly spoke, "T-t-that's g-great! Oh my gosh, it's a-amazing! Congratulations! M-make sure to invite me to y-your w-wedding." The enthusiasum in her voice was clearly fake, but she hoped he would buy it.
"Oh, thanks," Aaron said, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck. "So.. um, see you around?"
"Uh yeah, see you around, Aaron." Oh how she missed saying his name out loud.
"Bye, Yasmine." When he had said her name, it sounded like the sweetest sound ever.
After the awkward goodbyes, they went their separate ways.Yasmine found out that the park wasn't that far from her house, so she decided to walk than take the bus.
She had walked for some minutes before finding a playground. Yasmine loved playgrounds, even though she was in her 20's. The swings were empty, calling on her to sit on them. She walked over and sat down in the cold, black empty seat. She grabbed each side of the chain holding it, and kicked off the ground, starting the swing to go.
When she was going back and forth in the air, she realized how 'effed up her life was. All the tears she was holding back, flowed down her face. Hot, wet tears smeared down her face. They seemed endless.
