TW: mention of suicidal thoughts and depression

Years ago- when Dan and Phil first met...

Dan was walking with his head down, heading straight towards the bus stop. His first boyfriend had just broken up with him. Tears were streaming down his face when he bumped into someone.

"Sorry." They both said in sync. Dan turned to face the stranger, his eyes still glassy with tears, making it hard for him to see, but from what he could see, this person was beautiful.

"Hey, are you alright?" The stranger said.

"I am now..."

Dan was watching the news, with not much else to do. Phil was picking Louisa up from school and he had already uploaded his video for the week.

"Great Britain have finally jumped on the gay marriage bandwagon..."

Dan suddenly became more interested.

"The Government has passed the law, and same-sex marriage is set to be legal within six months."

Dan screamed- literally- and called Phil.

"We can get married!" He screeched as soon as Phil picked up.

"What?"

"It's legal! Gay marriage is legal!"

"Wait, wait, wait, slow down, I can't hear you, I'm driving."

Phil pulled over quickly.

"Okay, go."

"They've legalised gay marriage!"

"Are you serious? We can get married now?"

"Yes! It'll all be final and stuff in six months."

"Dan, this is amazing! I love you so much; oh my gosh."

"Daddy what's happening?" Louisa asked from the backseat of the car.

"Me and daddy can get married now!"

Louisa danced in her seat.

"Yay!"

"I love you Phil, I'm going to call my parents."

"I love you too, Dan, bye."

Dan hung up the phone, smiling so hard his cheeks hurt. He dialled his mum's phone number.

"Hey mum!"

"Are you alright, Dan? You don't often call in the middle of the day." She replied.

"I'm the happiest I've ever been; me and Phil can get married!"

"What? That's amazing! I knew we should've watched the news tonight. I'm going to get your dad, hold on." There was some rustling and a faint "Dan's on the phone."

"Hello?" His dad said.

"Hey dad, guess what?"

"I don't know, what?"

"I can get married to Phil!"

Dan was fairly sure that his dad had dropped the phone and was now dancing around the room.

"He's getting married! Woo!"

There was more rustling as his dad picked up the phone again.

"Sorry about that... You're getting married!"

"We're not even engaged yet, it's just possible for us to get married if we wanted to." Dan laughed.

"You do want to, right?"

"Of course!"

"Great! Anyway, I don't want to waste anymore money, so- bye, congratulations on getting married."

"We're not married yet, but bye." Dan laughed.

This was it. Dan and Phil were to say their vows and get married.

"Phil, when you first met me, I was crying. I was depressed and I wanted nothing more than to die. And then I bumped into you.
You asked my if I was alright, and all I could think about was how beautiful you were. You made me realise that I needed to live. I was going to kill myself that day, but-but..." Dan stopped to wipe a stray tear from his face. "But you pulled me out of my depression.
I swore to myself that I would make you mine, but I never imagined that it would last this long...
I'm alright now."
