I Always Have His Number on my Face...

We made it to the football stadium in less that 15 minutes, and we quickly got out of the car, and headed toward the locker room.

“Knock, knock!” Adalyn yelled, banging on the door to the boys locker room.

After hearing ‘Come in!’ a few times, Adalyn burst through the doors, with me looking at her like crazy.

“There’s my sister! But where’s my best friend?” I heard Evan ask, causing me to smile.

“You mean your girlfriend?” I heard one of the football players yell, earning a few laughs.

I turned the corner just enough for me to see what was happening, but not enough for people to see me.

I saw Evan roll his eyes, even though his face was pink.

“Aww. Does little Evan have a crush on Carli?” I heard Ryan, a line backer for the team, call out, walking over to Evan.

“Shut up,” Evan said, turning around, and walking to his locker to start getting ready.

“Dude. Just admit that you do! We all know you do! And we know she has one on you!” Ryan said, a slight smile on his face.

“Fine. I like her, but I can guarantee you she doesn’t like me. Besides, if Madysonn found out, then she would around starting all kinds of rumors about us and I don’t want Carli to get hurt over that.

When I heard Evan say that he liked me, something just clicked inside of me.

I thought about when we first met, to all of the times we spent together, how many times he’s been there for me through all of the hard times I’ve had, and all of the silly times we’ve had together.

I thought about how every time we hugged, every time he kissed my hand, or pretty much every time we touched, I felt a spark, but I always ignored it. Pushed it aside, thinking it was nothing.

Now I know it was something.

At that moment, I started sneezing.

Now, these weren’t little, quiet sneezes. No, these were huge, loud sneezes that you could hear a mile away.

When I looked up, I saw everyone in the locker room looking at me, smirks on their faces.

All except for Evan, who was trying not to look terrified, which was understandable.

“Hey guys,” I smiled, walking in.

“Well, look who has your number on their face, Evan,” Ryan said, walking over to me.

“I always have his number on my face,” I said, looking at him like he was stupid. Which, 90% of the time he is.

Ryan Wentworth, big brother of Kelsey Wentworth, one of my friends, was a senior here at River Ridge, and on a really good friend of Evan’s. Well, actually all of us since he was dating Adalyn too. He was about 6’2” and was well built. He had blonde hair that was clean cut and dark brown eyes. All of the girls fawned over him, but he only had eyes for Adalyn. And, seeing as to how handsome he was, Adalyn only had eyes for him.

“Touché,” he said, eyeing me, before walking back to his locker.

I rolled my eyes at him before walking over to where Evan’s locker was.

Evan watched with amused eyes as I plopped down in his locker, which was a open front locker that had a padded seat in it.

“Comfortable?” he asked, quirking an eyebrow, as he reached behind me to grab his Under Armor off the hook.

“Mmmmhhhmmmm,” I murmured, closing my eyes.

I heard Evan chuckle, and peeked through one eye to glare at him.

When I did, I saw that he was just pulling the black material down.

I quickly closed my eyes so he wouldn’t think I was checking him out or something, because that is just something he would do.

A few moments later, I heard his voice.

“Car. Can I ask you a question?”

I million things ran through my mind at that moment just like you would if it was your best friend. But in the end, I only had one thought.

What was wrong?

I had never heard Evan sound so different. It was almost as if he was afraid of something.

Usually Evan was very confident, cocky even, so hearing him like this was weird.

When I looked up at him, I saw that he was staring at the ground. He almost looked like a lost puppy dog.

The only time I had seen Evan ever look like this was when we were 10 years old and he broke one of his mom’s best champagne glasses. He thought his mom was going to kick him out of the house.

The thought almost made me laugh, but I bit my lip to hold it in.

My mind shot back to seeing him standing there when they heard me sneeze.

‘Was it was because I heard him?’ I thought.

No. Evan was never shy about things like that.

I opened my eyes to see him looking at the floor, looking like a lost puppy dog.

He looked shy, even weak looking.

“What is it?” I asked him.

He looked up at me and his eyes were filled with hope and nervousness.

“Were you in here the whole time? With Lyn?” he asked me.

‘Oh shoot...’ was my only thought.
